The shot of the rainbow in the blowhole made me double back. Brown pelican with sun behind, great. But hey, they are all pretty cool shots.

So I have a few more photos to share, not too many left. I figure I better post them and write something down before I completely forget some of the details of the holiday. These images were taken in the Bellavista Cloud Forest, about a two hour drive from Quito, Ecuador. The forest itself is absolutely breathtaking. I've only ever seen anything like it in places around Tassie. Some of the old dense forest near the Gordon River for example. It's different though. A lot more humid and rugged. I think we actually missed the right season there for the bird life... which is extensive even when we were there. You can stand in one spot and see 20 different bird species flying around. I'm told though it's even more impressive if you get there at the right time. We went for the day trip after the Galapagos tour because some of our fellow travellers recommended it so highly. By that stage though, it had gotten cooler in the forest, and the guides there said they become harder to spot. We saw a few Toucanets, and I even got a half ok shot. But it's at a distance and really didn't come out as well as these hummingbird images.

All fantastic. I especially love the hummingbirds, I wish we had them over here.

Oh wow! I'll have to have a look at these on a proper screen. I didn't know there was a competition for it. I would have entered some shots.
