Re: Galápagos islands and South America
I'm actually not too sure. I might *try* and keep a bit of a journal. But I don't know how often I'm going to have Internet access.

Re: Galápagos islands and South America
Well if I don't get much net access I'll post in around 7 weeks. I'm off to bed in a few mins as I have to wake up at about 2am to head to the airport. If you never hear from me again, I was probably kidnapped by crazy Mexicans. Ta tah!

Re: Galápagos islands and South America
I'm back. Actually I've been back since Tuesday last week, I've been avoiding the forums until I'd caught up on the F1.
I'll post pics when I get through them all, there are many. I had an absolute blast. The Galápagos Islands are a simply magical place to be. I really don't know how to articulate how I felt about that part of the trip, it exceeded all my expectations so massively. Every single day I saw and did things that are once in a life time. I swam right next to an endangered sea turtle, swam with sharks, witnessed marine iguanas feeding underwater, and played with sea lions, all while seeing countless endemic species only found one place on earth. The landscapes are so varied and different depending where you are and what island you're on. But all in their own way are an amazing display of geology and nature. The number of animals, and different species you see all in the one area, and the sheer numbers of them is insane. They have no fear at all of humans. And often they are very inquisitive. I honestly think seeing it was life changing for me. I've always loved wildlife and nature, and my interest in evolution was one if the motivators for going. But I feel even more strongly now about conservation.
I really think everyone should see it. But at the same time hope everyone doesn't. It's such a pristine place on earth, I hope it stays that way for many generations to come. If any of you decide you want to go, make sure you chat to me first. The company we used was 100% perfect. I couldn't have asked for better guides, crew, and group to travel there with.
The rest of the trip was awesome, but it was a hard act to follow the Galápagos Islands. I'm sure I'll explain in some more detail when some images are posted. I'm still struggling to process what I've experienced in a way, settling back into work and life back home is proving a little depressing for now. Looking back on images makes me feel desperate to be back in time in that place.

Glad you're back safely - mainly because if you hadn't been, your last posts on this forum were about Fleshlights and that'd be an awkward thing to read out at a funeral.
Massively jealous right now and looking forward to the photos.

Looking forward to the photos Dex.
A guy I used to work with went back there after first going in 1999.
He said exactly what you said, but fears it is already happening.
He promised to send me some comparo photos.
Glad you enjoyed it.

Re: Galápagos islands and South America
The guides we had gave use lectures each night. And they told us a lot about the conservation work going on. They are doing a lot of good that wouldn't be possible without tourism. Ecuador isn't a wealthy country. They have successfully eradicated goats from many of the islands, which costs a lot. As they said, it's all about balance.

Absolutely stunning mate. It's amazing to think you were actually there in person to take these shots.

Amazing amazing shots. All fabulous but I particularly love the crabs on the beach and the birds in flight. I take it you're happy with the 100-400mm
