That's a lot of fuckwittery :)

But only a very small surprise; and that's exactly my biggest fear about this data-collection regime.

Someone who should not, will get access to it (read: malicious hackers). Then it's sold to people who'll use it for all kinds of nefarious purposes. Blackmail. Personality theft. You name it.

Even if the idea is a good one to start with (it's not), this danger is always there, and not worth it.
Surprise, no sig. Now there is. Or is there?

My mum's area has had HFC NBN for a while now. She got a letter saying she needed to switch over soon because the analogue system was being switched off. so we chose a plan for her, I submitted the application and paid for the modem/installation. The modem was installed by her ISP about 2 months ago and she was told that within a few days it'd be activated. She then gets a series of messages advising her of delays which gradually pushed back her activation date, it's now apparently going to activated on May 25th. The analogue system will be turned off in her area on May 12th.

We've since found out what's causing the delay. She's on a subdivided block (she's number 19, her neighbor is 19a) and it seems when the external boxes were installed on those two houses both lines from the street were brought into 19a, so she just has an empty box on her wall! So she'll now be without internet or phone for at least 2 weeks.

And the classic is, 3 or 4 weeks or so ago a woman from the NBN knocked on her door to tell her that she wasn't connected to the NBN yet, and that she should apply for it straight away or she'd lose her internet and phone! When my mum explained to her why she wasn't connected yet her response was, "yeah, that sort of thing seems to be happening quite a bit".

Malcolm should fucking pay for each and every problem in this mess, that'd teach the bastard to knowingly and maliciously fucking up essential infrastructure.

Curious, was there any mention of Snowy Hydro 2.0 in the budget?

Pretty confusing. The budget i think signals the intention to buy it back from the States, which would be a precursor to Snowy 2.0, but it doesn't appear there's actually money for it:

Read an article today, reporter asks Turnbull something like "is it true that we'll go over half a trillion deficit with the new budget?"
Response was something like "Labor has promised $16 bn more deficit at the last elections".

But what was worse; the reporter did not say "My dear Malcolm, that's not an answer to my question, wanna try again?" just nodded and went onto the next question which resulted in similarly informative results.

Another question how is that right that while cutting friggen everything that's social from average joe they are giving tax cuts to big corps.
The response was not even worth mentioning.

It'd also be nice if the reporter knew the difference between deficit and debt.

This is major news. Australia deliberately worsened conditions on Manus to coerce detainees to accept PNG resettlement. They moved people into non-airconditioned facilities for instance to provide worse conditions for some groups. Nick McKim says this is meets the definition of torture. Horrible.

That is again something that should have proper criminal repercussions. Wanna bet that no-one will to go to court over it?

They probably call this the "renewables" then? Instead of energy, they apply it to tech. Great.

At the Senate economic estimates committee just now:
Senator Roberts wants to know if it's important for scientists to keep an open mind.

Yes, Professor Finkel says, "but not so much that your brain leaks out".
