Had a decent go at it now, playing two full rounds. It feels really good, but i'm finding it hard to really position the ball near the pin as i could with SO. Is there a feature where you can see the 'flow' of the green while you're still using a driver or an iron?

And how does this sponsorship/fan thing work?

In terms of seeing the green flow, I don't think there is that option using an iron etc. I've found my accuracy increasing as I practise and improve my player.

I'd recommend everyone having a crack at the daily tournaments if you're feeling a bit confident. I played them yesterday, and didn't do all that well but still woke up with $35k in the bank. :)

Do the daily tournies count towards a day's play and hence your 'cut' score?

Yep, any round of golf that is under the "cut" will count

Dex, I have no idea how long the beta will be going, but (anyone who knows more than me please correct me if I'm wrong) my understanding is that once the game goes live it will still be free to play, they are hoping to make their money out of micropayments (people buy snazzy clothes and clubs for their player, in the same way as SO do), so there's probably no real hurry, but once you have your new machine up and running, register for the game and send me a request to join the group.

I have to say, the actual game itself seems good, the physics work well and it plays very solidly (IMHO). It definately has more of a realistic feel than SO (other than the stupidly low scores that people are shooting of course). Where things are lacking for me at the moment is the social side of things (I suppose this will sound familiar to anyone who's played iRacing, so it's probably something that the industry is still working on getting right for this type of game). We're all part of the ARSE group, but there's not a huge amount we can do together in the game yet (unless I'm missing something obvious). We can be fans of each other and gain each other a bit more XP, and we can sponsor each other to gain a tiny little bit of cash, but I'd like to be able to create tournaments just for our group, to see and chat with group members when they are online (doesn't have to be in a world, SO style, just a listing on our group page of who is active on the site at any one time), etc. Hopefully that sort of thing will come along soon.

In the meantime, it seems to be very difficult to hook up for a game, there's no lobby as such so you can't really see who's online ready to play. If I'm thinking of having a hit I'll try to post here an hour or two before to give anyone else a time to let me know and we'll set up a multiplayer game (but sometimes it's hard to know when I'll have time for a round ahead of time). I haven't actually played a game with anyone else yet, so it'll be interesting to see how it works (whether you actually see the other player or do you just see the ball trails like we currently see for all the other players).

VT, do you remember where you placed in that tournament ot earn that sort of money. I've played a few, but as far as I know am yet to win a cent. :melt:

Yeah it does seem difficult to hook up for a game, whenever I'm online there don't seem to be any other ARSEs around. I played a multiplayer game with two randoms the other day, and you simply see their trails. You can all tee off at the same time too and play your 2nd shot before someone else's 1st, it's just that you wait for the other players once you've finished a hole.

I have no idea where i placed; I have no idea which tournament it was (though I think it would have been the beginner tournament which, being level 9, I just qualified for). I've been trying to find the results of that particular tournament.

I don't know whether it will remain free to play, this is EA after all.

I think that SO did multiplayer very well, but if what you're saying VT stays as is, multiplayer appears to lack any... multiplayer element... if you know what i mean. Even in single player which is what i'm playing, you can still see other player's flight paths etc, and normally, you go the whole 18 holes following them anyway just by the nature of both players taking the same amount time to play their shots.

From my POV it looks like the TWO-OB multi-player is just single players put together with some type of over lay, rather then a your shot my shot multi-player which is the SO

They could at least have some sort of an IM function. Similar to WOW or maybe even Facebook. Perhaps it is still coming? It is a beta after all...

Just shot a 66 on Torrey Pines with my Lvl4 Amateur player. I wonder how many levels there are?

I believe there are about 50.

Servers are back, and the "everybody plays" tourny has been scrapped.

Damn I had about 3 or 4 decent eagle opportunities in the Beginners Tournament, fluffed them all. Looks like I'll finish around -2... I'll have another go tomorrow, I reckon with some luck I could get -10!

nice plastik.. for me 17th was the killer blow triple bogey and +1(lv7), not bad for the first time on wolf creek
2nd time thru, got as low as -6(41st) then on 17th again messed it up and finished -3(63rd)
3rd -7(27th) was my best till hole 17th and finished -5(51st), +2k money at the end of it - this is better then playing a round of golf for me
4th -8(21st) was best, till you guesses it hole 17 ... only ended up -6(50th) but with only 1.1k money, there must be some hack there already becouse on a par 5 there was a guy on the green having there 2nd shot

and F putting, I am doing it tiger style in the sand with a chip and I get the birdys

wow I just lvl'd to 10 and I gave the amateur tournament a shot and woooow... :fall: +6 and finished 600th
