Creative Director Andy Tudor, one of the masterminds behind Slightly Mad Studios’ upcoming Project CARS title, has tweeted something very interesting recently: #ffd700
A quick Google search reveals that this is the HEX-color code for gold, indicating that the WMD-powered simulation might have hit Gold status very recently.
For those unfamiliar with game development, Gold status indicates the point at which a title enters mass production, also known as RTM (Release to Manufacturing). This fits perfectly with the timeline of Project CARS planned mid-May store release which is now just a month or less away.
Project CARS is quickly approaching its planned mid-May release so for everyone interested in the WMD-powered simulation, it’s time to make sure your systems are up to the task.
Slightly Mad Studios have revealed both the minimum and recommended system specs, giving everyone an idea of the kind of hardware needed to enjoy the graphical bells & whistles the title has to offer.

MINIMUM SPEC
CPU – 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400, 3.0 GHz AMD Phenom II X4 940
GRAPHICS – nVidia GTX 260, ATI Radeon HD 5770
MEMORY – 4Gb RAM, 1Gb VRAM

RECOMMENDED SPEC
CPU – 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7 3700, 4.0 GHz AMD FX-8350
GRAPHICS – nVidia GT600 series, AMD Radeon HD7000 series
MEMORY – 8Gb RAM, 2Gb VRAM

Needless to say, these specs don’t cover running the game in 4K resolution (and certainly not 12K resolution…yes, that’s a possibility!) !

My computer won't run pCARS anymore. I get graphical artifacts all over the place - even with graphics on minimum. *sigh* - once upon a time my machine was a gaming beast but it hasn't been upgraded in 5 years. That's the cost of children I guess!

Do we trust it...? The release dates of Slightly Mad Studios’ much-anticipated Project CARS title have been confirmed as the WMD-powerd title has gone gold!
“After months of intense work on what will certainly be the ultimate racing experience, we’re extremely happy to confirm that Project CARS has now gone gold and will be releasing starting May 7th.”, said Ian Bell, Head of Studio at Slightly Mad Studios. “We know the wait of the game has been long but we’re confident the quality and realism level we have achieved will provide our fans with the game they have all been expecting and we look forward to seeing you on the track.”

While the Playstation 4 & Xbox One versions of Project CARS as well as the boxed PC version will be available starting May 7 (Europe & Australasia), May 8 (UK) & May 12 (US & Canada), the PC Steam version will be released across all territories on May 7.

Together with the latest Project CARS trailer, Slightly Mad Studios also revealed some more details regarding the game’s multiplayer functionality. On the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and 32-bit PC’s online lobbies of up to 16 players will be available. on PC systems Project CARS will support up to 32-player lobbies when running the game in 64bit mode.
SMS came up with a system that tailors itself to your online multiplayer needs. When you are initiating an online session you will have the choice out of 3 lobbies. this will create the possibility to race online in a public, friends or private environment.
Image
PUBLIC LOBBIES
Public Lobbies are designed for quick or ad-hoc games with strangers. A lobby countdown timer dictates when the event begins and players can give a thumbs up to say they’re ready to go which speeds it up and gets everyone into the game faster. So if you’re playing multiple online games in a row with the same people, you’re sure to be able to jump into each with as little fuss as possible. Public Lobbies appear in a global browsable Current Public Games list that any player can join in and invite their friends to

FRIEND LOBBIES
Friend Lobbies are designed for you and your friends to play in a more trustworthy environment with a host determining when the game starts based on communication amongst your friends either by text (PC) or voice chat (PS4, Xbox One).
Players can join Friend Lobbies either by choosing ‘Join Game’ from their Friend List or from being invited in by someone already in the lobby.

PRIVATE LOBBIES
Private Lobbies are designed for players and companies out there that wish to only allow players that meet certain criteria entry. Eg.. you may be the curator of a sim racing league or large brand that wishes to only allow competition winners or league members access to a lobby.
With a Private Lobby you can thereby create bespoke lobbies of specific people that are only allowed to play

HOSTING A RACE
As a host of an online race you will be presented with a wealth of options to tailor and organise your online session to a specific need.

Host Migration – if the host leaves, someone else automatically takes over that role
Vote for Track Change – If you don’t like the current track choice, you can vote your dissatisfaction and prompt for a change
Full Customisation – Hosts can decide a full list of restrictions and rules they prefer (interior cams only, rolling starts, damage off, regulation severity, allowed driving aids etc..)
Fill With AI – Hosts can elect to fill the grid with AI opponents if the lobby isn’t filled with humans
Security – Hosts can name their lobbies and password-protect them (PC only)

COMMUNICATION
On the consoles, Project CARS features a voice chat function while on the PC platform you will also have the ability to use an in-game text chat.

Looking at that gameplay video last night it struck me that it didn't look as good as the preview clips we've had before. Some of the graphic and physics effects looked a bit poor.

The game does some things well but overall it's a bit meh. Cold tyres are the best in any game but once the tyres are warm, it doesn't feel connected. Might be my FFB but it feel vague. Need for speed race cars suits it in a few words. Worth a go but don't expect the best thing ever.

Gfx & sounds are pretty good, but...

It's a bit lifeless ( which is probably mostly the feedback's shortcoming + the lack of laser-scanned tracks )
Dirt on tyres do nothing, or at least I could not tell if it did.
Some cars feels easy to slide but then very quick to regain traction. Too quick.
And the cars feel a bit lifeless too. And not just the feedback; the behaviour, too. It's too easy to control. Too artificial in movements.
Of course it's all subjective, maybe others like it better.

But the gearbox is simulated very nicely, you can stall, and you can't shift without clutching or rev-matching (in cars with manual boxes).

All in all it feels weird, just not right. But it'll be a nice driving game I guess.
Surprise, no sig. Now there is. Or is there?

I discovered last week that you can bump-start the cars if you've stalled and you can get the car rolling. That detail impresses me as it did in LFS all those years ago. I haven't tried it in AC - I think it's auto-start renders it moot.

It's hard to resist especially given I'm a sim racing horder... I see this filling my need for a good career based sim-cade after missing Gran Turismo for so long.
I also suspect my son is going to love it particularly with that car selection. :D

I was reading through the cars forum today and completely forgot that I "invested" my money in the game. Some how I just assumed it was an early access thing. Turns out I'll most likely make my money back, and then some. It's not all sunshine though as I still have to purchase the game like everyone else, albeit at half price.

OK I'm intrigued, how do you make your money back if you've already invested (paid $'s) but you still have to purchase it, albeit at 50% off?

So, there were a few tiers you could enter in on, back in the day. Junior, team, senior etc.. something like that. They all had different amounts.

I went with team member for 25 pounds. From there, you basically got a return on your investment. From the calculations I've been seeing around the joint, it looks like about a 300% return. So, if you put in 25 pounds, you get 3 times that back.

So, essentially I've invested my 25 in the game, I'll get that back from sales (profit) of the game into my assigned paypal account and I get a 50% off discount for my troubles.

I think :D
