Automation - an engine building simulation

Post by Gusto »

Did a quick search and didn't look like it's been covered here yet.

Automation allows the player to become an armchair CEO - to build their own car company from the ground up. Create and run anything from a boutique supercar manufacturer to a mass-market multinational mogul. With powerful tools like the Engine Designer, the player can create cars and their engines in mind-boggling detail.

The grand campaign starts in the year 1946 and runs until 2020, with the main goal being to build a successful, renowned car company from scratch. All types of car manufacturers can be led to success if managed properly; building the right image over the years is key. The player’s tasks are to design engines and cars, to manage factories, production, R&D, as well as advertising campaigns. In game, time advances at the pace the player chooses and pauses automatically for events and occurrences.

Automation is comprised of three major game components - the Engine Designer, the Car Designer and the Company Manager. These components are naturally strung together by the game’s goals, made to be user-friendly and intuitive to use. A multitude of tutorial missions, videos, and descriptive texts help car novices become experts. Almost infinite options give the player all the creative freedom to create unique cars with vastly different engines.
Thoughts? Anyone tried it?

I had a go, very technical, i think its a game that you could really get into with time and patience though

I gave it a try and it's indeed technical, not too bad tho.
But somehow it does not give me the feeling of 'building the engine', rather just tuning it. (even though I know these changes aren't tuning changes, I'm merely talking about the game)
Surprise, no sig. Now there is. Or is there?

Hi all,

I didn't know that ARSE existed until I noticed a little bit of traffic coming from here, and thought I would drop in and say hi.

In the future, with the release of the Car designer, we also want to release an exporter suite, to allow the exporting of cars to race sims, such as rFactor etc. We do play a bit of racing sims when we get time, and have built our own race rig/setup.

If you guys have any questions, feel free to ask.

Cheers!

Had a massive post written up, but I have had a few too many and it was quite non-sensical.

In short - I enjoyed playing with it for a while, the emulated engine test gets old very quickly. It would be great to see a free 'manual' rev feature where you get control of the engine and feel the responsiveness etc. (however I don't believe this is a planned feature which is unfortunate)

Not much to go on with a very bare feature set in the demo - I am keen to see the rest of the game in action. Designing an inline 4 is not going to be much different from designing any other engine when there is no real purpose in doing so. I am really waiting for the 'company' part of the game to come into it.

We do want to add a 'manual' rev, with some clocks. It is on the list of things we want to add.

I can understand that the demo seems quite limited, but the preorder system allows people to give their support, and help us out, as we are just 2 dedicated guys here in Melbourne, with a 3rd giving his help part time in Germany. We do plan to release a board game of the Tycoon/Company part as a way to get advanced play testing and feedback on the tycoon game.

Very interesting!

Well that is good news.

I didn't mean to come across quite so harsh. As I said I have had a few brews. I get the feeling the pre order is a sort of kickstarter type of thing?

No worries, yes we are approaching this as a sort of minecraft model. Allow you to play what we have finished so far.

Wow well, after rediscovering this game.
Just spent about 30mins slowly updating from build 192 to the current 1323. There is evidentally a lot to catch up on.

I've been slowly working my way through the scenarios.

They can be an absolute prick at times with minute adjustments needed to get that extra 1hp to get you over the line.

I believe Killrob is part of the development team from Germany.

it is time to announce the first real BRC with 6 stages and team racing.

Entries are open as soon as the automatic public update comes out.
Entries will be open for one full week from that time on.

I will have to ignore every entry sent to me before then. The deadline for the entries will be posted once the public update is out.

Start building your cars with the public build (when it's released), not with the current open beta build, to be on the safe side regarding disqualification.

Use the time until the release of the public patch to ask questions and find teammates! :)

A new beta patch dropped recently.

Updates the UI quite considerably.

I load it up a couple of times a week to build stupidly powerful engines. Hopefully they add a few more (V6 etc) soon.

You can now convert your serial to a Steam key. It's a one way operation. Your old key will no longer work.

I'm fine with that, updates etc via Steam are the way to go!

Automation has been undergoing some massive updates now, biggest thing is their conversion to Unreal Engine 4

They also run a race series on the forums using what looks like the basis of an online multiplayer mode
