NASCAR- Dirt to Daytona (Gamecube Emulator)

Post by Bails MacKenzie »

Over the last year I've been looking for different/old "sim" racers and while I'm waiting for GT Legneds to go on sale on steam I was recommended this game by the controversial sim racing blog Pretend Race Cars.

The game runs off Dolphin - A gamecube emulator, considering original ps2 versions go for $100 on ebay it's worth a look at installing.
It's 1gb download for all files and it should take about 5 minutes mapping controllers, etc and getting used to the program.

The premise of the game is it's 2002 and you're a dirt leauges rookie with a knackered old stock car who dreams big and wants to go for the top tier Nascar series.
As you race you earn sponsorship decals which pay out for specific conditions and can buy better parts throughout a season.
As mentioned you start out in the dirt leauges, with a proper qualifying and heats system and head through the Late Modified (Tarmac sprintcars) before hitting the big leauges while still running races in the dirt series.

The game is suprisingly realistic and in depth, hiring crew, putting sponsor decals on the car, making setups in the pits.
Many times in the dirt races I was suprised to see AI throwing all sorts of manouvers on me to get past, even more so when I blew my engine after trying to qualify with a shorter gear ratio and a taped up grille, the game may not look anything special but it's in depth.

So yeah, graphics leave a lot to be desired but it's a great little keyboard racer if you don't feel like plugging in the wheel and for minimal configuration it's a bloody fun game!

Download Version 4.0.2 of Dolphin - it's the most stable of the lot.

Simply extract the Dirt to Daytona ROM into the Dolphin folder in your instal location and open the rom with Dolphin's interface, then buggerise around with the config.

Played the Ps2 version.. still play it every once and a while like GT2 and some others.

or if people like PS2 emulators, use a xbone controller and plays fine.

Some play it safe on the merry-go-round, others go for the thrills of the roller-coaster.

I have a joke for you. I have a prediction that you are going to walk into a bar, my prediction was wrong and your wallet is gone.
