Flight Sim World (Dovetail Games)

SECURING THE FUTURE OF FLIGHT SIMULATION - Flight Sim World: Bringing the Skies to Life!

Chatham, Kent – 3rd May 2017 Dovetail Games, the multi award-winning simulation developer and publisher today announced that its much anticipated flight simulator, Flight Sim World™, will be released into Steam’s Early Access program in the coming weeks.

Based on benchmark flight simulation technology, Flight Sim World will provide players with an unprecedented level of realism and detail. Its officially licensed GA aircraft will be the most authentic and detailed in-sim representations on the market, faithfully replicating their real world counterparts, with every gauge and switch fully operational.

Not only do these aircraft look like the real thing, but they also interact with the environment in an accurate way. A combination of atmospheric effects and advanced behind-the-scenes mechanics, result in a remarkably unique home simulation experience. Watch the raindrops race across your windscreen in stormy weather, while the physics engine challenges you with true-to-life aircraft behavior, including edge-of-envelope spins and stalls.

Whether you want to plan a peaceful flight somewhere sunny or test your skills with tricky situations fraught with bad weather and engine failures, the comprehensive Flight Planner gives you full control over weather, location and time of day, also allowing you to add random events that will make your time in the air even more challenging. For those who want to focus more on content creation, also included with Flight Sim World is the Pro Mission Editor, which is a professional tool which allows players to create more complex missions.

“The time has come for a new flight simulator which really focuses on the physical quality of the aircraft and a flight model which brings them to life”, said Executive Producer Stephen Hood. “After doing some intensive work on the game engine – such as providing a much-needed 64 bit element
– we now have a flight simulation platform which will allow us and our partners to focus on creating new and exciting ways for simmers to benefit from these advances. New features and expansions to Flight Sim World will be rolled out as part of the Early Access program and beyond, reinforcing our absolute commitment to the hobby. In addition to providing core updates and expansions, Flight Sim World will build on Dovetail Games’ extensive partnership publishing program, allowing high quality add-on developers and publishers to make available excellent additional content such as aircraft, airports, missions, and scenery.

“We have already built relationships with some of the best and brightest flight simulation developers in the industry”, added Simon Sauntson, Head of Third Party at Dovetail Games. “Flight Sim World will expand on those partnerships as we continue to secure premium content for our players. In addition to growing existing partnerships, we are reaching out to the wider development community to foster new relationships and bring top quality content to FSW”

Available May 2017 on Steam Early Access.

Not surprised they went down this path for their fully fledged Flight Sim being based off of their Train Sim World product.
I'm trying to determine if FSW is using the Unreal Engine 4 as TSW is. I had read rumours that at some point DTG may try to combine the two together & add future simulation based content like Ships, Cars/Trucks & maybe even Fishing (Based of Dovetail Games Euro Fishing).
Great to see some well known & excellent 3rd party developers have provided content with both ORBX (FTX) & A2A Simulations (Accu-Feel) identified already.
But the biggest surprise for me is it is releasing on STEAM Early Access this month.

It appears FSW is still using the base MS FS code so I am not holding out as much hope for something revolutionary. At least I will get a copy of it for free after purchasing Flight School...
With the decision by Dovetail Games to pull Flight School from Steam store shelves in anticipation of their upcoming Flight Sim World platform due for early access release later this month.
Dovetail has announced they will be gifting a copy of Flight Sim World to everyone who invested in Flight School to show their appreciation for the support from loyal customers.
Following the announcement of Flight Sim World earlier this week, we would like to take a quick moment to thank the virtual pilots who have stuck with us over the course of the past year.
As a way of showing our appreciation for your support, we will be gifting a copy of Flight Sim World to everyone who invested in Flight School. We can't wait to welcome you aboard!

FAQ:
How do I claim my free copy of Flight Sim World?

You don't have to do anything, when Flight Sim World is released into Early Access, everyone who's redeemed a copy of Flight School will have Flight Sim World added to their library.

Can I buy a copy of Flight School?
As stated previously, Flight School is no longer for sale.

What if I have an unredeemed copy of Flight School?
If you have a copy of Flight School in your Steam inventory you should still be able to activate it.

This week, we released our most significant Flight Sim World update yet:

An advanced weather system which completely transforms your simulation experience!

Awhile back, we partnered with virtual environmental specialists Simul and have been working hard alongside them to bring their flagship trueSKY technology to Flight Sim World. That day has finally arrived and this update is now waiting for you to jump in and explore. All you need to do is make sure you have “Advanced Weather” toggled on in the Display section of the Settings menu!

Flight Sim World: Closure Announcement
It is with great sadness that we announce the future closure of Flight Sim World.

As you know, we always had a strong ambition to bring a new experience into the established world of flight simulation, one that deliberately overhauled both the flying experience and the graphical fidelity, offering new ways to fly.

Unfortunately, after many detailed discussions, we regrettably don’t see a clear direction that will allow us to keep to the development time we’d want, alongside the player numbers we need.

So, slightly before a year since we first launched into Early Access, we have made the intensely difficult decision to fully scale back all future development on Flight Sim World and remove it from sale on 24th May.

We’re sure you have lots of questions, we hope we’ve answered a few here.

FAQ
What happens to Flight Sim World if I already own it?

It will remain in your Steam library, available to play in its current format.

Will the sim be taken off sale?
Yes, and we’re working to the date of 24th May 2018. We want to give anyone who does not yet own a copy of the sim enough time to get a copy and keep it safe in their library for future play.

What will happen to any Add-Ons?
Add-Ons will also come off sale, but those you already own will still also be in your Steam library.

We hope you can give the team the respect they deserve for their tireless hard work to date. Please know that all of us here at Dovetail hold flight simulation, the creators of add-on content, and especially you, the community for this sim, in incredibly high regard for both your support and time with Flight Sim World.
