Just dont think it would work at Bathurst with such high speed blind corners - could be creating an even bigger risk than the one trying to be solved.

While code 60 would not have worked for this incident with stuff across the entire track, the vast majority of incidents can be very easily dealt with under code 60. VASC won't go that route though, because they want the close action and do not understand what they are doing with this event.

The big issue with this incident *appears* to be the lack of flags at the previous point. I can't explain why John hit when the previous 2 missed, but if there were no yellows then I can't blame him.

It appears to be human error, and I'm not surprised TBH. I personally had to leave with 90 minutes remaining in the race, unable to stay awake and concentrate. We have to be signed on at 4am, after being kept on post until 6.30 for those stupid fucking porsche wankers to drive around. I didn't get enough sleep, and I'm sure many others didn't either. There weren't enough marshals for adequate breaks during the day, so I'm not surprised someone might of made a mistake this big.

It's about 10-15 seconds from when the first car hits the wall to when the yellows come out and it's after the Merc goes through. Not sure if it's a marshal or not but you can see someone casually walk over to the station before the flags start waving.

Avoided this thread till I finished watching the race but that crash was horrific but also amazing given the drivers all walked away with relatively minor injuries. Mind you if either or both of those cars were RHD we might me morning another fatality on the mountain. Canberra's James Koundouris feared for Ash Walsh's life in Bathurst 12 Hour crash

No idea what the previous flag point was watching as the yellow's certainly came out late. Also what is the marshal ahead of the crash doing walking out like that, yes it is a concrete barrier but it isn't very high & offers no real protection?

They already run the event, only logical they will bring it all together to minimise cost and make the most of the track being available.

A fourth day of on-track action will be added to the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour in 2019.
The three-day February 1-3 date is now accompanied by running on the Thursday, January 31, which will host additional 12 Hour practice.
With the move, teams and drivers will get more running at Mount Panorama before the Sunday’s around-the-clock GT sportscar enduro.
A fourth support category will also be added to the event’s program.

“Adding a fourth day was the next natural step in the evolution of the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour,” said Event Director Kurt Sakzewski.
“Any extra laps at Bathurst are priceless. Adding more track time will allow teams and drivers, especially our international contingent, more time to learn the circuit and its challenges, ultimately making for a better Sunday race.
“It also enables us to add a fourth support category which will give spectators and those watching online and on television more action and bang-for-their-buck.”

Tickets for the 2019 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour, marking the start of the Australian motorsport season on January 31-February 3, are now on sale.
Early-bird pricing for general admission access, grandstands and camping is available until June 27.
Four-day general admission tickets start at $60 for adults, grandstand seats on the pit straight at $70 and campsites at Reid & Sulman and McPhillamy Parks from $90.

As long as the "fourth support category" isn't V8 SC then I'm all for it!

For me, that's an extra day of little sleep, and an extra day needed away from home. I don't think I can be bothered

PAUL TRACY, the 2003 Champ Car series champion and a former winner of the Gold Coast IndyCar race, will join the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour grid in 2019.

The Canadian racer will replace Boris Said aboard the MARC Cars Australia entry alongside Paul Morris and car owner, Keith Kassulke.

Said, who was initially announced to return to Bathurst just before Christmas, was unfortunately injured while training on his dirt bike ahead of the event – necessitating a replacement driver.

Tracy was suggested to Morris by Australian broadcaster Leigh Diffey, who works with him on NBC Sports coverage of the IndyCar series.

It will be his first start at Mount Panorama, though the now 50-year-old is hardly short of racing experience.

I think I might day trip it on the Saturday this year. Going to take my boy for his first motorsport experience so will be good to have a variety of short sessions.

The schedule is up.

Lots of sponsor ride shit on Saturday afternoon. Will probably take the kids to the local pool if it's hot.

Exar, I'd come up Sunday if it's an option?
