Bathurst 12 Hour Race
So who is going this weekend?
After how great last years race was im surprised nobody has mentioned this yet.
Imagine the bathursts of old with good fields, good drivers and well prepared cars and generally you have a good idea what the bathurst 12 hour race is.
Even though safety cars are used unlike the old days, the length of the race results in lapped traffic that still has a chance to unlap itself and come back to win. Jason bargwanna last year in a evo ten almost pulled that off!
First and second practice session results :

With the likelyhood of rain on race day its going to be a wicked race.

Bit pathetic, that Ch.7 who have the rights for the 12hr and numerous HD channels can't even use one for it.

Re: Bathurst 12 Hour Race
Sucks that you cant make it cet, would have been good to catch up.
Im leaving in 40 minutes or so, should get there just in time to watch qualifying for the 12 hour and the afternoons support races.
I know the wet will make it a bit miserable for us spectators but the on track action should be awesome. Hopefully we get a mixed dry and wet race tomorrow to give the rear wheel drive cars a chance.
If any evo is to win i hope its from the pro duct stable. Seton, crompton are in one car with mark king, and bargwanna, glenny and pearson are in the other. Either bargwanna or glenny set the fastest time in this mornings practice and seton and crompton have also been up at the top of the time sheets over the weekend. Last year they had fuel issues as the cars were brand new but they have rectified the problem for this year and i would love to see the boys get a major enduro win at bathurst.
For the guys who havnt been to this race in person all i can say is your missing out. Last year it was the standout event for me motorsport wise.

watching 4 of the same brand of car clearing off into the distance and going 20sec's slower is better? As much as i like variety i find production car racing quite boring, they aren't overly wild on the track, especially the 4wd cars. Plus being a 12hr race it's not a sprint which can make people more cautious. But having said that i still follow it, but i don't find it even close to being as exciting as any of the V8 races. It's mildly interesting for most of us rev heads but not many people outside racing find it interesting. The biggest buzz from it is being able to see different cars on the track.

I would love to see someone put some development money into the STI's, at least then the EVO would have a competitor (more so in the rain).

WoW, its all going on.
Saftey Car, Fog and now a tree has fallen across the entire width of the track just after forrest elbow. Race has been red flagged, and the cars are stopped ontop of the mountain

Re: Bathurst 12 Hour Race
Finnally someone has come out and said the Safety Cars are used incorrectly in Australian motorsport and create more safety problems than good.
I have been for years saying we should go back to the double waved yellow and stop relying on the Safety Car. On the 12 hour telecast, they were talking to a guy who had over 30 years experience up at Bathurst and says the Safety Car is really called a Catch-Up car .....when it comes out everyone speeds up to catch up to it. That is so bloody true.
There was an accident up through reid park and if there was double waved yellows the accident would of not happened.
I just hope all forms of motorsport in Australia listen to this guy and even the wankers high up in V8 Supercars understand that the Safety car should only be used in extreme conditions, that the double waved yellow should be used in accidents and Tim Schenken should not use the Safety car just to bring the field closer for TV ratings.
