Carlos Sainz has signed a deal to join Renault and trigger a series of domino changes that will secure McLaren the French car manufacturer's engines for 2018, Autosport has learned.

High level sources have confirmed that Sainz's deal has been agreed as part of a sweetener for Renault to end its Toro Rosso contract early.

Good for Carlos as that Renault has shown some promise in the Hulks hands.

Some rumors are floating around, that Sainz will be in the Renault by the Malaysian round with Gasly taking the vacated seat at Torro Rosso. Palmer gets shitcanned.

Yeah apparently they want someone who can help score points by the end of the year. It'd be weird if it happens, every year there's a rumor someone will swap teams mid year but i can't recall it actually happening.

Done deal so it seems then

McLaren has reached agreement with Honda to be released from their partnership and switch to Renault power from the 2018 Formula 1 season, Autosport has learned.

Toro will take Honda and Red Bull will sit and wait to see what happens as to whether they end up in the top seat for the Honda when it comes good.

Red Bull are set to split with engine partner Renault at the end of the 2018 Formula 1 season, multiple sources have told BBC Sport.

Renault have told Red Bull they no longer want to supply them after next season and while the move has not been officially confirmed, insiders say the divorce is almost certain.

Red Bull will be forced to use Honda engines with both its teams in 2019.

Junior team Toro Rosso's switch to Honda is to be confirmed on Friday.

I can see why.

Red Bull didn't promote Renault when they were winning and when they're losing they blame them for not having a good enough engine. I think Renault have seen this as a great chance to get out. DannyRic and Max will now both be frantically hoping Kimi wants to pack it in at the end of next year!!

Red Bull won't get any help from Merc and Fez on the engines so they'll either have to hope Honda get it right or they have 18 months to get a new engine manufacturer on board and I reckon that's a huge ask as most will be waiting for the new 2021 cheap engine regs.

I think Redbull have something in mind with Aston Martin or maybe even Audi, though that maybe a stretch.

Not sure AM have got the money and the VAG group companies are more likely to wait for the new engine regs. Unless RB put half the money in to speed up the development maybe but 18 months isn't much time to build these stupidly complicated hybrids from scratch, although they've been using Ilmor energy recovery bits in their Renault so it may be that only the ICE needs to be made.

I think you are right Kev. Any idea's Redbull had about engines were beyond this hybrid era and they'd be pushing for the change, and have been for some time.

I wonder if the new 2021 regs will make it even harder for teams like red bull. If it's more attractive for teams like Porsche to enter, why wouldn't they just become a works team, instead of just an engine supplier. It's already hurt McLaren, and now could be the case with Red Bull as well.

The thing is, I don't see RBR sticking around in the sport if they are going to be messing around the mid to tail end of the field.

Porsche will never enter F1.. Nothing to gain, but lots to lose, same with BMW.

I can see the VAG group getting in there but they have a bit more presence in single seaters with VW rather than Audi or Porsche.

The talk was they were going to buy Red Bull, assuming the 2021 engine rules were favorable.
