He had a get out clause in his Indy contact in case the F1 deal happened.

Re: General F1 news
Australian Grand Prix chiefs have decided against a bold plan to change the current Albert Park Formula 1 layout to help create another overtaking spot.
Autosport understands that the Australian Grand Prix Corporation investigated making a significant change to the Lakeside Drive part of the Melbourne circuit, replacing the fast Turn 11/12 complex with a 'stop' corner to create another passing opportunity.
The plan would have changed the profile of the back straight to make it longer and faster, leading into a hard braking zone and a tight left-hander.
With a new DRS zone in place, the idea was that it would create a new place to pass on the mostly-flowing layout.
But it appears that the existing layout will remain unchanged in at least the short term.
The AGPC has confirmed that an investigation into making the changes yielded too few benefits to make it worthwhile, a view shared by FOM following discussions between the two parties.

Re: General F1 news
The plan wouldn't of worked, it took away the overtaking spot at 13 and and removed the best corners on the track.
There isn't much that can be done with Melbourne though besides some tweaking

Re: General F1 news
They could extend further down and get a nice hairpin. More of a chance to pass in the 2nd last corner as well.
Turning T11/12 into more slow corners would have made it worse.

Re: General F1 news
I'm with Darren - a hairpin there would spice things up and also wouldn't hurt the current T15 for overtaking.

Re: General F1 news
I think a DRS zone just after 12 and a run into the hairpin Darren mentioned would be good.

Re: General F1 news
Robert Kubica will test for Williams in Abu Dhabi after this weekend's season-closing grand prix.
The test is effectively the final step in an evaluation process to see if the Pole can return to Formula 1 in 2018 after seven years away.
Williams will also assess Renault reserve driver Sergey Sirotkin.
The Russian has emerged as a candidate along with Daniil Kvyat, Pascal Wehrlein and Paul Di Resta, although Kubica remains their first choice.

Re: General F1 news
I'm still not convinced Kubica will be able to do all the races. Monaco in the wet with one hand?
It's also a partly funded seat by Stroll's dad to have someone to teach his son how to be a better driver. Kubica will have enough on his plate just getting through the races without having to teach that kid as well.
Di Resta might not be the most exciting driver but he makes the most sense for me.

Yea I agree Kev, my money is on Di Resta too for the same reason. He offers the most experience for Stroll, otherwise Stroll might find himself in a young gun shootout & Williams can't afford to loose the money he brings.

As a graphic designer, these logos make me weep.
The logo Carter Wong designed 28 years ago is a classic, perfect use of negative space and its really stood the test of time. There is nothing wrong with it...
If it aint broke, dont fix it.

Re: General F1 news
The current logo is brilliant. I understand we're entering a new marketing-savvy era of F1 so they will want to refresh the brand but they could do that by adjusting the existing logo rather than changing it completely to something that will inevitably be worse.
Amusingly, my friend - a lifelong motorsport nut who travelled the world with F1 for many years - didn't spot the 1 until relatively recently

Farken What!!! "Hypersoft", that's ridiculous... :smackshead:
I wonder how much Force India (or whatever they will be called), actually likely their sponsor paid to have a tyre that colour.
