Liberty are also having big problems with the halo. It's in a rubbish position for the onboard TV cameras. With the conventional locations you can't see a lot. They're hoping to have 360 cameras on the chassis about where the front axle is but they're having trouble broadcasting the data from a 360 HD camera fast enough to be live or almost live.

What a thoroughly fugly thing! Surely a fighter style cockpit has to be better it's not like they haven't been proven safe by oddly enough fighter jets..

Vettel tried a big screen at Silverstone and said the curves in it made him dizzy or some shit. I think he was just saying that to get out of it. But it looked a lot better than the halo.

Kinda odd that no one else ran the canopy/screen after him tho, its been tested at a GP once... Well, the Red Bull aero screen once and the canopy style screen also once.

The Halo has been tested on every teams car in comparison over what, 2 seasons now.

OMFG... Nup.

They trialed full cockpits back in the 60's for actual performance reasons, not hippy crap. But the drivers hated them and they didn't provide enough of a benefit to perservere with and so were ditched. As it should be.

I get the feeling the halo testing has been very half hearted from the teams. No one's done more than an installation lap, although they say that's due to airflow/heat issues. Bottas only used it for the first time in Abu Dhabi.

The Alfa Romeo name will return to Formula 1 in 2018 in partnership with Sauber and Ferrari.

Sauber will now be known as the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team, and the deal will include "strategic, commercial and technological cooperation" and "the exchange of engineering and technical know-how", said a team statement.

Hahahaha, not even a week on and F1 has already amended their new logo so it works better on social media. Wasn't it designed for these use cases in mind first...

They have made the spacing between the elements larger and increased the TM mark so its clearer at the reduced size of an avatar. It definitely works a little better now, just funny that this wasn't caught so early on considering you can set these things up on social media for review and testing before pushing them live.

That looks great if not very basic, I doubt it'll look like that come Melbourne 2018.
Also what's the deal with using an old spec car too? If I'm not mistaken it's from the V10 era looking at that high nose.

It's just a livery and branding launch. Probably didn't have enough time to repaint a current spec car.

What about moving the camera's to the halo, and then you can have it facing back at the driver also.
