That is pretty bad timing, just when Supercars looks at expanding we've lost two manufacturers.

According to the front page of the V8 Supercars site Barry Rogers, must be Garry's brother :D , has made a statement that according to R8's post is already out dated. http://www.v8supercars.com.au/news/

Anywho, check the Cyan Racing website news story. Suggests that it's all over and done with.

I'd like to see Nissan support 2 cars for Kelly's and 2 for GRM.

Be nice to see Nismo have a win. I still shocked by the Volvo thing.

Top drive by CL today but well played by Ludo!

I get the feeling Volvo HQ never really supported the whole V8 Supercar entry, but Volvo Australia really did but after 3 years they just ran out of puff to win the argument and finally got over ruled.
It is also the third time Volvo have had a crack in Australia for 2 or 3 years then packed up their show and taken everything back to Sweden so maybe it is just their MO.

HRT have lost their Holden factory support and the right to call themselves the Holden Racing Team. 888 have taken over as the official Holden team and from 2017 will be known as Red Bull Holden Racing Team. HRT will be known as Walkinshaw Racing.

They also get some sort of deal to be sole supplier of engines and other things. Like they needed the help lol.

And so accelerates the demise of V8 supercars. GT3 will be the headline act in no more than 5 years mark my words

The problem with GT3 is that Bazza Bogan can relate to the Taxi's. Buying a fullysik Falcadore is perfectly achievable for him.
An Aston Martin for example is simply not.

GT3's are also a lot more expensive. I think they're trying to create a slightly more common man version that allows the same diversity of cars and engines but on a smaller budget.

It's really not though. Cost of a new GT3 is around $500k-$600k, with much less running costs due to restricted development. Costs according to V8SC media for a V8SC is around $600k, so you can bet it costs RBR and the like at least double that per car, plus the cost of development those teams do is pretty huge. With cars no longer being made here, I doubt most fans will have any attachment to any street brands much longer.

Time is right for a new challenger to come in. A series offering the right cars, FTA coverage and one good marquee endurance event could take it away from them, and AusGT is the only series at the moment that can potentially make that jump.

A lot of teams build their own cars though. Also repairing a GT3 car would be a lot more work than the current cars. The Pye crash at Ipswich couldn't have been done as quickly if it was a Ferrari or McLaren. They turned that thing around in only a couple of hours. There's been a few GT3 cars that have had to pull out of Bathurst due to damage that would have been repairable under the current V8 rules.

Yeah, I don't think GT3 will ever quite gain the traction to be the premiere class. Not sure what will happen to Supercars post local manufacturing though.

I think both will need each other to do well. Look at the two biggest races we have in Australia, the 12 hour and the V8's @ Bathurst. Both have been so good the past few years.

GT3 is good for the guys like us but they need to cater to the common man and fringe dwellers that put money into the sport by going to the track. I'd love to see a GT3 style class become the main series but it just doesn't seem to attract the big crowds like touring cars do. Even in europe the crowds aren't that big. For some reason people all around the world love watching cheap cars they can buy go fast. BTCC, Nascar etc are all common man cars.

GT3 has already peaked.
Sports car racing always works in waves. Starts off small, gets a huge wave of enthusiasm, then a few car companies take it all too seriously, costs sky rocket, the ones who can not keep up fade away, throw in a global economic crisis and boom, back to square one. Happened with Group C, happened with GT1s (twice), it will happen with GT3.
There is already evidence that GT4 is becoming more popular as the GT3 cars get faster and more complicated. As the gentleman drift towards GT4, so will the car companies. Soon enough the cycle repeats and repeats.

That's before we get into the points that GT3 cars are entirely unsuited to top level racing on Australian tracks and in a manner that the fans are used to for our top series - a little biff and barge. Too many driver aids, too much aero, too much whinging about parity - look at the recent BoP debacle at LeMans for instance, not GT3 cars I know but we already see issues at the 12hr when the Audis can not pass anyone despite being faster over a lap, that is only going to get worse when the stakes are raised.
In theory it all sounds awesome but the details do not add up.

Horrible stack but nicely delayed the race so I could switch back over to see the end of the WEC at Austin. :)
