Facts From Previous Race

Lewis Hamilton’s fifth Hungarian Grand Prix victory made him the most successful driver in the history of the race which was held for the first time 30 years ago.

For the second race running Hamilton surpassed Michael Schumacher’s victory tally at a particular grand prix. However Schumacher continues to hold the record for most wins at many other rounds of the championship, and Hamilton will need a few more years of racing to have a chance of passing them.

Ayrton Senna holds the record for most Monaco Grand Prix wins and Alain Prost holds the record for most wins in the British Grand Prix. Schumacher holds the record for most wins at the same race with his eight victories in the French Grand Prix, but that race hasn’t been held since 2008, which was Hamilton’s second year in the championship.

Hamilton’s run of form at the Hungaroring even extends to practice sessions. Until his crash during second practice on Friday he’d headed every one at the track since 2013.

Schumacher’s last Hungarian Grand Prix win came in 2004, which coincidentally was also the last time that year’s eventual champion won at the Hungaroring. Hamilton moved into the championship lead with Sunday’s win, the first time the championship lead has changed hands mid-season since he overhauled Nico Rosberg at the 2014 Singapore Grand Prix.

Hamilton claimed the 48th victory of his Formula One career, leaving him three wins shy of Prost in second place on the all-time winners list. It was his fifth win of the season, drawing him level with Nico Rosberg, though his team mate has led more laps: 280 versus 241.

Rosberg took his 26th career pole position, putting him level with Mika Hakkinen, but has to wait for his 20th career win after losing his lead at the start. This was the sixth time in the eleven races so far this year the pole sitter hasn’t led at the end of lap one – and on two occasions Safety Car starts meant the pole sitter wasn’t under threat.

Kimi Raikkonen already has more fastest laps than any driver bar Schumacher and he added to his collection in Hungary, setting his 43rd. Schumacher recorded 77.

But the most unusual statistic from last weekend surely belongs to Fernando Alonso, who as well as qualifying and finishing seventh also finished in the same position in all three practice sessions.

I doubt it, if Lewis can pass Rosberg the legend he will do it clean as he just has more skill. :p
Honestly I think Rosberg may have the speed over Loowis this weekend so let's see if he can finish the job.
If Rosberg wins it will make it very interesting next race given Lewis has to change that very tired engine for Spa. If Lewis wins, I think it'll play on the mind of fragile Rosberg the legend all Summer break.

He's just shattered isn't he. Can't see how he's going to pick himself up from here.

Can't see the race as being particularly exciting. No one really out of position. Rosberg should control it from the front. Be interesting to see how long Dan's tyres last given the extra laps he did on them in q2.

Hackedinhalf is an abomination, a jumped up mediocre kart track.

Duke, leave Rosberg the legend alone. Leave him alone!

I believe the blue n white kerb is ok at T1 but get on the Astro turf and it's considered off track.

Hackedinhalf, I like that one.

Good to hear radio chatter again.

WTF I cannot believe the Rosberg penalty. Can not fucking believe it.

Verstappen moving under braking is going to kill someone and he gets off without a penalty... and yet him moving late under brakes again is half the reason rosberg went so deep.

load of bollocks.

Agreed, piss weak call from race control. If Rosberg locked up the front from going so deep he would have run off the track. As it was he stayed in the confines of the circuit and Max drives clean off the track and jumps on the radio like a spoilt little bitch.

Max didn't have to hang it on the outside.

Yep it was a piss weak call as it should have been 10 sec's not 5, even the Merc team knew it should have been more that's why they held him for 8 sec's instead of the 5.
Sure he was full-lock but that was after he out-braked himself (so he says) & was at the point of no return in forcing Max off track. What a legend!!!

Rosberg penalty was pretty crap given Lewis vs Nico moves over time. Too much inconsistency. I could understand when Nico's move actually caused a collision in Austria but if that's what Rosberg gets every time then it needs to apply to everyone.

Rosberg's problem, as I see it is that it doesn't look to come naturally to him to not play fair, his natural instinct when entering a corner side by side is to place his car so both have room to get through the corner, whereas Hamilton will drive the same line he does when no other car is there, basically saying you yield or we crash). I could see this coming all the way back at Bahrain in 2014, escalated at Spa that year (my personal view is that it was wrong for Merc to lay the blame for that on Rosberg), and since then Hamilton has been running him off the track at every opportunity (Suzuca, COTA, etc, etc). Rosberg has finally decided he needs to retalliate, but he doesn't seem to have that nasty streak in him. It's coming out forced, like he's trying to plan it, rather than it coming to him naturally like it does to Hamilton, that's why it looks to clumsy when he tries to run someone wide.

In the end I reckon Rosberg will end up having to conclude that he just isn't selfish enough to win a world championship, especially when he team mate acts like the king of selfish.

I'm tired of them running each other off track making passes. Why can't they do I clean? Rosberg the legend penalty was deserved.
