The thing about April fools is that what you propose in the joke has to be dumber than how you normally run the sport, and with these guys I'm not really sure that's the case.

i didn't even realise it was an April fool joke because it didn't seem that bizarre. I mean it's a bit odd but i could definitely see them doing something like this.

Dunlop really needs to take a look at what they did to the tyres in the off season. That many failures in a single race is a joke.

It looks like the quickest way to the flag is to go aggressive on setup and blow a tyre, then play catch up. The 888 cars went conservative with Dunlops recommended settings and they still lost despite not blowing any tyres. Just gotta pick the right corner to have a blow out. Also don't cross that bit of white paint near the pit entry.

Seems they will use the V6 for the odd round next year before a full tilt in it in 2019.

No sure how this will go posting from phone at the Track.
Huge shunt at Sandown in Grid Race 1. Hazelwood walked away thankfully although covered in a little mud.
And another BJR Supercar gone to heaven after flipping a few times.

Lap 1crash & another at the informous turn 6. It was practically identical to James Bolding last year. Red flag but driver ok.

They need to do something about the wall there. The left hander is bloody fast with 10m of grass on the outside between the track and the fence. They need to do some earthwork so they can straighten the armco into a straight line between the outside of the lefthander and Dandenong Rd corner. Presently it follows the track. And put some asphalt or gravel trap there too.

It needs to be Asphalted, It'll let about half the incidents we have seen there be avoided, and will wash off way more speed than the wet grass. A dirt-backed concrete wall behind the tyres would also be a good idea, a SAFER barrier would be better. Gravel at that speed and location will just have cars rolling into the spectator fence, not ideal at all.

Of course, none of that will happen as there will be no ROI for the works. It'll be closed soon anyway

You only need gravel in that part of the track to stop them from cutting a corner a bit further down. But that high speed area does need asphalt and a wall like GT said. They also need pre assembled tyre bundles that they can slot in place fast and easy after an accident.

I was there all weekend at the Dandy Rd corner park & view, they did have pre-assembled tyre bundles but it still took that long to repair it.
Not sure what they can do, even if they used asphalt I still think they would need to have a larger run-off area. It would probably still require cutting into the bank & if they did, it would likely mean they would have to realign the fence the whole way down to Dandy Rd corner including removal of a toilet block. That wouldn't be cheap given this venue is soon to go to track heaven like Oran Park did.

by the way we also watched a bit from the hill behind turn 6, they are unbelievably fast through there. The load on the rear right tyre creates puffs of smoke as it rides over the mid-corner bumps. Spectacular!!! :yes:

Yes, took an unbelievably long time. I know the track isn't long of this world, but I think they need to do something there as it has cost teams a fortune in the last few years. It doesn't help that the track actually narrows on the left before the first left hander over the hill.

Every Sandown meet I've been to has a car eating fence at that corner but they can't justify spending the money on the track when they're running the risk of the horse club just saying "We're selling up" and pulling the carpet out from under them.
