He has a good chance do to so, if he puts the splits together.
Scott McLaughlin believes there is more time in his Shell V-Power Racing Falcon after recording the fastest ever Supercars lap at Mount Panorama in Practice 5 for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.The Supercars championship leader posted an impressive 2:04.1470s to smash the existing Supercars lap record, held by Jamie Whincup, by 0.8s, ahead of this afternoon’s qualifying session. McLaughlin’s pace provided an ominous sign to the rest of the rest of the paddock with the Kiwi 0.5s faster than his nearest rival Chaz Mostert.
The 24-year-old believes he can dip in the 2:03s which is backed up by data from his best three sector times recorded in the session.
McLaughlin admits securing the record is a ‘dream come true’, but is aware there is still plenty of work to do before he can celebrate.
“I think looking at my theoretical 2:03s is a chance. You have got to put the lap together,” McLaughlin told Speedcafe.com.
“I think there is time but the track has got to work with you and I think we had perfect track conditions. We will find out in a few hours if we can go quicker.
“It is every boy’s dream to go fast around Bathurst and do the lap record, certainly it was a dream come true.
“I wish it was qualifying but at the end of the day any time you go fast around here is great.
“Coming into The Chase I thought this was going to be big. I made little mistake there, got caught up and lost a bit of time. There is no such thing as a perfect lap.”

Shell V-Power Racing boss Ryan Story shared McLaughlin’s view regarding the potential of the #17 Falcon. However, he is downplaying the significance of the achievement ahead of Sunday’s race.
“It was impressive and when you look individual sectors the ultimate lap would have been very special indeed,” Story told Speedcafe.com.
“Hopefully we can carry that pace through to this afternoon and we can get both cars through to the shootout.
“We are focussing on our own program at the moment. This session was about making sure we were ready for qualifying.
“There is a degree of confidence that if we execute in the next session we will be close to where we want to be (for the race).”

Fabian Coulthard ensured both Shell Fords were under the previous lap record after he ended the session in fourth.
Qualifying is scheduled for 1550 local time.

So who is watching & who are you tipping?

Hard to go past the DJR-Penske team but looks like the rain is arriving right on que for the race start.

I'd put the 88 as the fastest driver combo. But there's so many variables and the cars are so even that it's almost impossible to pick who will win.

I can't believe with these conditions that there has not been a SC yet.
It's actually been pretty boring as no-one is willing to take any sort of risk, yet.

I must be watching a different race. People going off all over the place and skidding around at every corner.

Finally 17 dies and we get a SC.

Well a few offs here & there hardly made it exciting. However it's starting to get entertaining now the rain has subsided & everyone is using slicks.

But Fark me the amount of ads is shitting me. FTA can suck it, so glad next year there'll be no ads on FOXTEL.

There's heaps of ads on Foxtel as well, but they at least still show it in split screen.

Thats what I mean as I'm watching Foxtel & it's cause of FTA that the ads are on it.

Good to see the race delivered again at the end. Great win for Erebus as they were the standout Holden's this weekend. Ford will be kicking themselves as will SVG.

Percat crashed hard on the final lap, and Lowndes ended up in the gravel trap at the chase. Would be nice of fox to show some replays of that...

I was watching 10. Didn't even hear about those incidents, though I switched it off in the middle of that awkward interview.

Was busy and only watched bits and pieces from 20 laps to go.

That's racing, chances come and go... but that Erebus have got their name in the record books.

Building models pinched off Google Earth?

Buildings look like photogrammetry.

Track looks fun to drive, but not sure there's many overtaking opportunities for V8's. Nice to see a street track with some elevation changes.

Be sad to see this old boy leave but he should make a fine co-driver.
Anyone know what the seal is with is REC & the deal with PRA?

PRA want a fourth REC - presumably for Stanaway - and I'm guessing that buying one from LDM is cheaper than buying Bright's? Buying the one from LDM is also likely part of the deal for PRA to supply LDM a Falcon and for Gary Jacobson to drive it.

Suggestion is Bright's will go to Matt Stone (funded by James Rosenberg) for Todd Hazelwood to drive in the main game in an ex Penske Falcon.

Ah thanks Jiminee. Interesting.

I want to see Stanaway in a full time drive, he is such a talent.

OMFG what a crazy last race on a ridiculous track to end the season.

I feel for Dick, McLaughlin & the team.
But the right desicion was made, to many compounding mistakes cost himself the Championship.

Can't believe Whincup end up with his 7th title considering DJR-Penske really had the quicker car most of this year.
