Paying for ARSE.

Post by norbs »

Gday all,

as you may have noticed, Google ads have dissapeared in the last week or so. This is because Google Adsense has disabled my account. I have asked why and haven't been given an answer, apart from the fact that I had broken a rule. So for now, no more Google ads. I am looking into replacing them with another company, but I am unsure whether the ads will cover the cost of the hosting.

I have spoken with a few of the senior members about this and they have been very supportive in my decision to add a Paypal Donate button on the forums. Basically, if all active members were to donate $1 a year, that would cover the cost of hosting. Donating is not compulsory. I cant stress that enough. Also, we are only asking for $1 donations so as it doesnt get to a point where people might think they own a stake of ARSE. As you all know, ARSE is run entirely by volunteers, Big Kev being the major player, and as such, we cant give any guarantees about the forums being up all the time. The last thing we need is people giving us grief because they paid for the forums and they aren't up 100% of the time.

Any questions can be directed to me at norbs@arse.org.au.

Bank account details will be PM'ed to those who request them.

hmm, i dont think $1 donations are too much to ask for at all. Its a cheap deal for all that ARSE offers.

shame it can't be incorporated into a comp. Paypaling $1 is a bit pissy, make it ten and stick half in a prize pool.

I'd only be guessing that the rule broken with adsense would be suggesting at some point or another for people to click on the ads, from all the stuff I've read about adsense this is the worst thing to do.

Back on to the Paypal thing, $1 is easy to manage. Anyone can afford $1.

can you post up a bank account where the money can be transferred to? I'm not transferring a dollar though, the commbank fee would add 50% to it, that's just wrong ;)

I've no problems with it, but how much paypal charges for a transaction?
It may be that half of the $1 is going to be lost in transit...
better nominate a normal bank acc, and those who really want to will transfer $5 or $10 and it'll all be good.

Another problem with paypal is that you need a CC if I'm correct...
Surprise, no sig. Now there is. Or is there?

you don't need a CC ysu, you can set it up to directly withdraw from an account of your choice!

Ah that's good. Still the question of cost is there. I heard it does not worth using paypal it at low amounts like this...but no real data in my hands so...

For those ARSE's in Melbourne arounf the GP chances are we'll have a get
together so we might all pass the hat around and make 1 payment of the total
rather than dozens of small $1.00 transactions.

Life is like a grindstone - whether it grinds you down or polishes you up depends on what you're made of.
You only need two tools.WD-40 and Duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should use WD-40. If it moves and it shouldn't use the tape.

Why not organize ARSEMEATS in each capital city as a little fundraiser, Good way to get to meet everyone and also spin up a few dollars for ARSE, whatever extra is raised can go to a charity or whatever?

no it's not too much, but it's all coming out of Norbs' pocket, so anything that can take away from him would be a huge help. :) That why we said $1, it's not too much, but it would help.

I'll throw a few dollars towards the cause every month or so, f*ck know's it entertains me through the day.. I spend more on a can of bourbon at lunchtime.
