Maybe they're trying the Have I Got News for You format of having a different main presenter each week. Never Mind the Buzzcocks did it for a few years as well.

People of the world, may we present the brand new Top Gear TV team!

We are very proud to announce that racing driver Sabine Schmitz, YouTube star Chris Harris, F1 pundit Eddie Jordan and motoring journalist Rory Reid will join Chris Evans, Matt LeBlanc and of course, The Stig, when the show returns in May.

I'm wondering if they'll divide people up for things. Harris and Sabine for the sideways supercar stories, the journo guy for reviewing 'normal' cars, and Evans MLB and EJ for 'fun' things.

At least the trio is no longer. Hopefully it's totally different, surely it has to be with 6 of them.

Six presenters works for me, I reckon the old format was stale and the last season with the trio was pretty bloody average, here's hoping change is a good thing.

I sort of feel sorry for these new presenters.

If it goes well, everyone will say it is on the back of the other 3.

If it flops, everyone will say "I told you so"

They are on a hiding to nothing.

I for one am happy to give it some time. It will never be the same. But the same isnt what it was a few years back either.

Agreed. I'm glad to see a change. This seems odd to me though. I just hope the show is mostly about cars. I'll give it a good chance.

I really don't know what to think. I'll watch it for sure though :)

There are some interesting people in it so who knows, might work. It won't be the old Top Gear but it might be fun.

Episode 1
May 29th

In celebration of 1986 classic Top Gun – which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year – Chris Evans heads to Nevada to pit the 645bhp Dodge Viper ACR against a Chevy Corvette Z06 driven by Sabine Schmitz. Cue roof-mounted guns.

Elsewhere, Matt LeBlanc takes Ariel’s manic Nomad into deepest Morocco for some fun, while back on British soil, both he and Chris Evans take a rain-soaked road trip to Blackpool in a pair of roofless Reliant Rialtos. Yup, it’s time for a UK vs USA challenge.

And we can confirm that episode one’s first studio guests will be none other than The Social Network and Batman vs Superman star Jesse Eisenberg, alongside Michelin-starred chef Gordon Ramsay.

I shall remain open minded for the first few episodes I think.

If Evans makes it all about his friends and family though, I'm not sure I can take it.

My guess is Sabine, Evans and LeBlanc will be doing the shenanigans bits while Harris and Reid will be doing the more serious car review bits.

No idea where Jordan will fit in, but he might be able to make SIARPC entertaining. I'd prefer to see more of them learning to drive the track and less of them crapping on about their car ownership history.

I was hoping it might return to more of a car show but it looks like the same format. I'll still give it a look.
