It's being rebooted in 2018 and is being filmed in NZ atm.

I noticed it was 10 30min episodes which doesn't seem like much but I'll probably give it a watch.

I've gotten into arguments with my wife over Monkey Magic, China made a series which she grew up with in Vietnam but I keep telling her the Japanese one is the original and the best :p I did the thing to call the flying cloud and she had no idea what the hell I was doing lol

I have the original series on DVD at home. I should show it the light of day sometime.

I remember watching bits of it off and on as a kid. Then after my Mrs moved here in the late '90s ABC started, showing it on their Saturday or Sunday morning music show, Recovery. That's when my Mrs got into it and why we own the DVDs.

The story has been redone many times from stage plays to comics so I don't see an issue with someone having another crack at it.

Not too fussed about the white washing and the fem washing, but it'll be very disappointing if they strip out the Buddhist teachings given they're the whole point of the story.
