We got the Olympics

Post by Big Kev »

:woohoo:

I certainly don't envy the triathletes doing the swim in the Serpentine. They'll have to dodge floating cans of special brew and pink toilet paper but what the heck! It's for an olympic medal afterall :)

Wonder if I can have a crack at anything? I'll be 43 when the olympics get here so that's anything requiring physical fitness out the way.

Shooting? That's just standing still. I can do that :D

Go the shooting... if you don't win, cut off a few toes and try again in the Paralympics :D

Edit:

This could be you... (even easier as you get to sit in a comfortable chair)

I believe in you! :D

LOL
Yes I am. Last week in fact.
And I really couldn't give a toss about the olympics now cos the build up is on the tv every bloody day. However, I might go and see the flame because it's passing through Oxford at the start of July.

When they were on in Oz I saw part of the opening ceremony and the closing ceremony and that was it. I only saw other bits on the news. I just remember it as displacing every good TV show that was on at the time as well as screwing will daylight savings.

I doubt the interference with TV will be as pronounced as much of it will be shipped off to Nine's other channels, especially with the time difference issue.

No big deal now. Most TV I watch is downloaded or ABC 4 Kids. And there is some seriously f**ked up shit on that channel.

Agreed on that!

I went to the ParaOlympics in 2000 for the wheelchair basketball, more fun to watch than 90% or Olympic sports

Absolutely. Here's Eamon dancing to that show.

He loves it. It's just plain weird though.

Lol... not even had the opening ceremony yet and the first major screw up of the London Olympics is all over the news.

North Korean womens footy team introduced with flags of South Korea and the multi million pound cablecar across London broke down yesterday.

Welcome to the worlds first comedy olympics :D

Yeah it's class isn't it. They walked off the pitch for an hour and had to be coaxed back on after an apology.

But, is it going to be like the Commonwealth games? Has all the construction finished yet?

Yeah it's all been built a few weeks ago.

Now we just have problems with offending whole countries, cable cars breaking down and security people not turning up.
And it hasn't even started yet!

I heard on the radio the other day that only 4000 of the 10000 security personel have been trained. The company rsponsile have been paid well over 200,000,000 Pounds if I remember rightly. Fark!

I think G4S security have been a little hard done by in the press. Basically when we got the deal in 2005 or whatever it was, they (the government and security companies) thought 2500 security people would be enough.
Then we had a general election in 2010 and a different bunch got in.
They decided to do a security review in november 2011 and said 2500 isn't enough. We need another 10,000 people..... by july!

So they had to get job ads out, check 100,000 resulting CVs, interview 50,000 people, security check them and train them all before the olympics started. Needless to say that wasn't really enough time so they're a little bit short. So we're using the army and off duty police officers to fill the gaps.

And yes it was a huge contract. Several million pounds worth but now it looks like they company, G4S will probably lose £50m overall.
