Locking to a Single Car?

Post by nutty »

Hi guys,

I am in the process of making up the new rules, I think we have made some big changes that will make the comp alot fairer, but not removing the fun as most people expected would happen.

We have come across our biggest hurdle, I really want to promote close drifting, as this is something that the comp has lacked soo far in many cases.

So the idea came up of locking the series to a single car, this car would no doubt be the XRT as its the most popular (and most like a jap spec drift car, just minus the 400+hp :p)

Vote in the poll please.

If we don't go ahead with locking to a single make, the comp will follow like the Saiko D comp, in which to a certain point there will be a 100km/h speed limit, once the point is hit tho both drivers can floor it, which means in a XRG vs FZ5 battle, the fz5 will still have greater entry speed.

Personally, im not too fussed, I generally use the XRT so im happy with everyone using it, but its going to remove the flavor from the event. ie Takumi's XRG battle's, and perhaps disadvantage on the harder/uphill sections like linking the double left at the end of Round 2.

I voted no because I want to keep that uncertainty of which type of car will win - its a good flavour  . Takumi's win was awesome :D

i personaly, would say no. Even though i'm not rly involved in the comp, I cant see how people would get shitty with single car comps.

People love the car they drive, they practus with it, and love it. Be it the XRT, FZ50 or even the UF1000, people love THERE care, with there set. Alot wont realy want to change. A Dude in an XRT, although he may not be able to keep up with the speed of the FZ50, he will still have the style. And thats whats driftings about.

So I say no, dont lock it, but perhapse have 'perfered cars' or somthing...

I also voted no, mainly because I like to see a bit of variety in the series.

Especially Takumi in the XRGT, HACHIROKU POWER!

I mean if Takumi can win rounds in the XRGT vs a FZ, then why not keep it.

the simple answer is no.

obviously there are cars that are faster than others. but there are always ways to balance the field. let me take the saiko d competition into reference here;

a lot of the drivers are XRT drivers already. but they knew that people would be using the FZ5 and LX cars. so they changed the different type of tires allowed for each cars, and totally barred a few cars to keep the speeds of the battle at a relative distance. for example;
Available cars for the competition are:
- XRGT Turbo *supers/normals tires allowed
- RB4 *supers/normals tires allowed
- LX4 *supers/normals tires allowed

- LX6 *normals tires allowed only
- RAC *normals tires allowed only
- FZ50 *normals tires allowed only
in my opinion, this is the easiest way to keep the cars as even as possible, regardless of weight/power etc. but removing all cars besides one is almost out of the question, as it'll probably leave a few drivers annoyed that they cant use their favourite car.

but then it comes back to the judging factor. you cant give points to the faster car just because they're able to link one part of the course better, but be essentially slower everywhere else (mainly an FZ on the latest round -- the XRT generally seemed to be faster in the first tight section than the FZ's did, from where i was sitting). depending on who drives what, the two cars should be judged in the same manor, with the power/weight being taken into consideration as a minor judging attribute.

and regardless of who uses what car, if the drivers arent skilled enough to pull off some close twinning, then its not going to happen regardless. twinning is TOUGH less BOTH drivers know the exact, almost "perfect" line to take around the corner. not saying that you guys CANT do that (because i've seen most of you drift outside of the competition, and there is a lot of skill there), but it is somewhat difficult to do it, especially under a competition circumstance. more often than not, i couldnt even do it.

(p.s. this is just personal opinion. but it's probably the way that I would do things being in your position.)

It really doesn't worry me. Im an OK drifter in the XRGT (turbo) and the fz50. Both cars have their good points and bad points so I recon keep the variety

Why not just run each round with a different car?

At least this way you'll find the best all round drifter ;)

If I can I'll try and race the next series... moving to Brisbane next week!!! :yikes:

that's a good idea pingers. The reason we have done this poll is because we need to fix the problem of speed differences. We cannot simply restrict the speed because some cars need faster speeds for specific corners or slower speeds...
It also makes judging easier because the 2 car's wouldn't be so far apart.

I still don't get the point, what is the problem of saving a replay of run, going offline for 2-5 mins and watching replay 2-4 times to make a fair judgement.

Because one of the changes in the rules will mean extra points for keeping close.

If I was vs's takumi, I would just speed off and leave him behind, meaning he isnt going to collect the points

depends on which track and which section is being used. even the XRG seemed to drift through corners quicker than the faster cars, just in round one there was that pain in the ass straight (in hindsight the layout could have "finished" on that straight and there would have been alot less problems with speed)

In my eyes, it is a lazyness of going offline for a short amount time and judging from replay, and this change of rule should not affect anything - judges should still make drivers wait 2-5 mins to make a good decision - unless you want to keep making this competition look totally amateur from a perspective of judging. People who have been working on drift events for over a year tell you something..

About different cars, you might want to use tire restrictions we have used in SDDC to make things more balanced. Also our 100km/h zone start worked very well.

I am sick of hearing of this SDDC if i wanted to drift in the SDDC i would ? This isn't the SDDC this is AAD and just because you do something doesn't mean we shouldn't and we're amatuers.

Plus i have no idea wat the frig you are on about.

Quoted from the rule changes thread if you were assed to look at it.
nutty wrote:At the completion of the second run, judges are then to save the replay and go view it.
....
Once the judges have scored both runs, from both drivers they are too add up the scores and return to the server to post the driver that scored the most.

....
The only major problem with this format is time, I will be moving the start time to 8pm, and allowing around 2-2.5 hours for the event.
We ARE making the judges watch a replay and take aslong as they want.

Petey, I haven't noticed the rule changes thread. I admit, my bad.

In the end, my suggestions were kept in mind as seen in the rule changes thread you have pointed out. Don't be so full of yourself, I am only suggesting so the competition can be improved.

i think any car should be allowed to enter, but drivers must maintain that car choice the entire series.

This will stop people using the nimble xrt on the faster tracks then using the powerful fz50 on the tight flat tracks cause the power gives them more angle.

edit: at the same time tho, feel free to ignore my opinion since i havent entered a single event yet

there was another idea of locking a particular car for a particular track. Would be a much better idea. Much more skill required then...
