Pretty sure my harddrive couldn't do those speeds, I assume that is using SSD.

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you finally have enough horsepower.

velociraptors could do 200MB/s, that's 1600Mb/s, so yes, they can do it.
Edit:oh, sorry, your HDD may not have been able to do it.

Download to ram then buffer it off to HD.

I moved house recently and went from 4Mb/s to a whopping 6Mb/s. On the plus side it's a 50% improvement, I guess.

When I've moved houses I came down from ~10mbps to the current crap: early evening congestion: 2.5mbps with huge latencies and unexplainable dropouts. On a good day I get 4mbps with 40ms lag :( . It was (is) a horrible experience. I never knew ADSL is such rubbish if it's over-provisioned and far from the exchange. I didn't think exchanges were this far apart in some places.

And my NBN connection just keeps slipping farther like a mirage in the distance. :(

I can apparently get VDSL at my new place which is meant to give awesome speeds but I've never actually heard of it before?

It can give you great speeds, if you are within a bees dick of the exchange/cabinet.

Guy at work just bought a house, he said his Mrs looked at him weird when they were looking in the garage and he excitedly said "woohoo NBN" when he saw the NBN equipment

Not as exciting as NBN but when I moved into my current place, I noticed (afterwards) that almost every room has an Ethernet port. I was pretty excited about that.

Exactly as I feel, at least mine is reliable (save for a one week outage recently due to something dying at the exchange) but max. download speed is around 410 kbps. :faint:

Turns out we have VDSL2 available through TransACT (iinet) which could give pretty decent speeds (60/16). Having just paid the connection fee and everything else to switch over to the new address with Internode and with all the other craziness involved in settling into a new place (sooooo much has gone wrong it's not funny) I think I'll sit on it until I'm really hankering for some high speed internet.
