Nvidia Pascal

Post by c.j »

Bit of info released about the next gen cards. Might make a few of you looking for an upgrade for VR pretty happy

http://www.roadtovr.com/nvidia-reveals- ... lt-for-vr/

http://www.roadtovr.com/nvidia-gtx-1070 ... june-10th/

I am going to build a desktop with the 1080 and give my laptop to my daughter, price point is interesting with the new cards.

*note - Disclosure: Nvidia paid for travel and accommodation for one Road to VR correspondent to attend an event where information for this article was gathered.

I'll be keeping a close eye on the 10XX price points. If I want to get an OR, i'll need a new card. Everything else in my system is fine, just the GPU

I'd love a 1070/80... but probably can't justify the expense. Bring on the 1060.

I'm all over the 1080 when that thing lands.

There will probably be a 1080i 6 months down the track, for those who can wait.

Or you can buy a 1070 and install it in your computer in 12months time...........for those that are into that sort of thing.

One of these will probably be my next card too, even without VR, I'm close to needing a new monitor and all the good size monitors these days are 2560x1440 or 3840x2160 which these cards should be able drive at a fair clip, I've held off grabbing a new monitor until I can get a graphics card at a reasonable price to go along with it.

I reckon these will push graphics at 4k easily Shonky, gaming monitors will fly and look great. Pretty cool tech!

Not a bad time to of been saving.. beats 980ti and TitanX in some things with only 1 8pin connector.
Atm, talk is 1080 $599USD RRP. or $813AUD(+Aussie tax on top).
Some play it safe on the merry-go-round, others go for the thrills of the roller-coaster.

That price will likely be the reference card. I'm hoping to upgrade my 760 for a 1070 at those prices. Need a CPU upgrade too as the i5 2500k is starting to really show its age.

How so San? I expect something newer will drive a 1080 to it's maximum potential, but from what I researched earlier this year, the latest and greatest CPU from Intel gives you a 10-20% boost at best over the 2600K, and since you have a 2500K just a mild over clock will have you equal current Intel CPUs. Unless you are doing video rendering or some other CPU intensive tasks I can't see you'll get much benefit from a new CPU at this point.

Did you stick an SSD in it yet? I reckon you'll see more benefit from that than a new CPU.

I came to the same conclusion with my 2500K it seems Skylake isn't enough of a improvement to worry about.

I only use iracing these days. I'll have a look at dirt rally and AC tonight.

iRacing gets 150fps on ovals.

I think a 1080 is going on my shopping list. I just need to decide if its worthwhile waiting to try the Rift against my 780ti, should the 1080 become available before my Rift.

You and that bloody SSD! Haha. Not yet mate. I just thought it was the majority of my bottle neck and a CPU increase would be on the cards. Guess I'll need to look into it a bit more. It's just weird not having upgraded my CPU in 4 years or something and expecting it to keep up I guess. Got plenty of RAM and the 760 is showing it's mid range age now.

Heat is the issue with an overclock at the moment and I haven't had enough I centimetres to step away from the stock cooler. It needs more voltage for stable which makes it pretty hot on stock cooling.

Noticed the same thing, though with a 3570k. Times are changing Intel dropped 12,000 staff on the CPU side of the business.
The 670 windforce is still going nicely. Normaly look to upgrade every 2nd release and the 700 series was a rebadge. Though possibly wait for the Red team to release and bench mark, if you are unsure/saving for 1 upgrade.
