Faster than a single 980Ti in most games, but not by a lot. If you already have a 980Ti it would seem a bit pointless to me given the uncertainty and extra faffing about that SLI/crossfire brings. If you have a 980 then a second 980 would cost less and give better performance.

staticice shows the current cheapest rx480's at $369 with most stores at $439+
Thanks Darren. I have a 970 already, so i was wondering how 2 x 480s stacked up against say a 1070 as a potential upgrade from the 970. Given that SLI/Crossfire seems to always come with hassles, I doubt I would seriously consider it. The 1070 will probably be mu next card.

Depending on the 1060 price point, that'll likely be my next upgrade path. Really only play Rocket League and Overwatch these days haha.

Do not forget the 480, is 4/8gb, not 970s 4/3.5gb and has some more modern features.

That has quite an amount of waffle going on in the video, and what is up with his monitor arms with the sides being lower then the main? that was more annoying to watch then anything else.

Most single screen games even at 4k are still under 4GB of ram used(a lot not even using 2GB), 1080-4k is generally around 600-800MB difference.
Multi-monitor eg, 3 way is higher generally 1-1.5GB+ or so.. more with high levels of AA, at 4k you do not need it, some games vary. 4GB is a good base if you run such a setup, but better to get the 8GB if you run games with texture mods.

8GB would also be preferable for VR. Win10 takes 300MB video ram, Oculus Home 700MB, BigScreen 1GB/Virtual Desktop 500MB. With those running I'm having to turn down texture quality settings in some games to keep within the 3GB on my card. Others have been hitting the limit with 4GB cards.

Oh with VR indeed. With some, it is almost double as you have basically loaded 2 games at once.

System ram, some have been getting to 16GB limits also.. soo 32GB is the new standard loadout, as how many run the game only with no other things open at the same time.

It looks like the 1080's are starting to go into stock around the place. I'm sorely tempted to go out and grab one today.

Details please. :)

Looks like a 1080 is coming my way as well, but not for a while apparently. Big discount means big wait. :(

Sorry if it's not technical enough for you wobbly. But I liked it, as it was a first real look at a budget 1070 offering (if any 1070 can be called budget) & that it was linked specifically to sim-racing.
As for the monitors, he had changed his central one for an upcoming review which is why it's not matched to the others. If you look at the start of the video showing some driving you can see he usually runs 3 of those BenQ curved screens that do match correctly. ;)

Gigabyte GTX 1080 FE. I grabbed it at the going rate of $1199. The hobby fund is now a bruised and bloody mess on the floor.

I installed it during lunch but won't get to give it a workout til after 4.

Nice but damn the $'s is no laughing matter, just to enjoy games.

So when's the 780 going on sale?
That'll help a "little" to restock the hobby fund...

The kids' PC has a ATI 6950 or something in it. Some games don't even support it. The boy will enjoy being able to crank up the details in Star Wars Battlefront.

Anyway.. time to go give this new beast a bit of a run.

Nothing against it, just could of been trimmed a few mins.

nVidia 1060 should be released on the 7th of this month.

That's a very good deal. That's cheaper than I can get them here. I got a 1080 Strix ordered from Newegg the other day. By the time Tax and shipping was added, it was a fleas foreskin over 800 USD.

There's some price gouging going on with that model but I became tired of waiting for news about my EVGA FTW order from May.

The Strix should be delivered today.

That is it.. supply and demand.. and the demand is strong.

That and the Titan P is to be released some time in August. With 16GB of ram.

I have to say that I'm pretty impressed with the 1080 with the Rift and AC running at a pixels/display-pixel ratio of 2.0. Apart from some minor fogging from the sweaty exertion of racing, it was a real pleasure to plug around Spa for an hour last night.

I haven't had much of a chance to tool around with a lot of other stuff yet. Elite: Dangerous on VR High settings with 1.5 pixel ratio looked pretty too, although those were lazy settings and I reckon they could be a little better. Inside a space station looked pretty good with some really minor stuttering, but on approach to a planet settlement it looked like a bit of a jaggy mess, but ran smoothly.

This thing is a monster (size) compared to the old Titan.

Got it plugged in and up and running in under 10 minutes I reckon. Possibly the simplest and most pain free upgrade I've done in a long time.
