PC help....

Post by NeilPearson »

Hi Guys,

Need some help.

back in september, my gaming rig had a PSU go pop, and I wasn't able to get the warranty PSU back until yesterday, found out it has surged through the system as the water cooler unit for my cpu has been fried.

Put the stock cooler on, and when I booted it just boot looped with different errors. took the HDD out put into this computer, and it worked fine. format and then put back into Gaming, got windows installed all the way up to its first set of reboots and then the errors came back.

tried different HDD, same result.

If I try to install windows on the HDD again, it wont even let me get into the install.

The errors are:

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

MEMORY_MANAGEMENT

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

any thoughts on what I can do? it was already 4 months out of warranty back in September, so unsure on what to do. (i was lucky to get the PSU i think!!)

I've had that error a few times and it always seems to be CPU related. Are you running an overclock at all? I had it pretty consistently until I worked out that was causing the error for me.

Also, I had issue with RAM. Not sure if it was hyperthreading or what, but couldn't only use the first couple of RAM slots and if I just put one stick in, I would eliminate the issue.

I think it can be related to whole bunch of stuff, but that's what fixed it for me.

Having said that, I can't use all the RAM slots on my MOBO anymore because of it. I've just kind of lived with it as I'm not far from a new build.

I'm thinking RAM. I've had those errors throughout the years and it mostly ended up being RAM issues. Swap them around in slots, re-seat them, if you have 2 sticks try each one etc. See what happens/doesn't happen.

You can always give http://www.memtest.org/ a go if you suspect your memory.

I took 3 out, left the left slot in. Failed. Put it in the 2nd slot failed but it actually gave me a file name after the exception, so i installed windows again and it worked.

Plugged in a second stick and it worked. Yay!! so now I have 8gb ram.

RAM can be funny like that. I would test each of them separately with memtest and find out which one is causing issues.
