home made shifter (a few pics too)

Post by Bauer »

over the last few weeks I set about making my own H shifter. based on a design by hitman http://members.chello.nl/~a.hitman/shifter.htm I finished this baby last night.

the $9 gamepad. I dont think I have ever walked into a shop, paid good money for something new, nodded when told to keep my receipt for warranty purposes, gone home and ripped it apart :D
Image

to make the gates accurate, I changed the size of the image from the site to be 'real size' then cut out a template and used that. The gate was made from a scrap piece of nylon. no fibreglassing for me :)

time to make the mechanicals. oh to easy, my local marine store even had the 'stick' in stock

the return mechanism. close to hitman
Image

soldering is not my strong point, I soldered the wires onto the circuit board of the gamepad and did the 'reverse' switch but thats it, everything else uses crimp connectors
Image
sorry for the blur

a wider shot of the electrics

and voila, my own little piece of hardware.

hard to get used to, during the build process (which took 3 weeks or so. Work and home get in the way a lot) I switched to shifting with the MOMO stick instead of the paddles. Its gonna take a while

Wow, looks good, Stu. I'm keeping an eye out for the new Actlabs shifter which is due pretty soon. I just can't be arsed building anything for myself. :tilt:

:D I do quite like it. Wifey is a fan so it is on regularly and now I enjoy it too. Now that she has learnt the art of bittorrent its on more than usual :)

notice in the next shot I have moved it and turned it upside down. Then i thought fark it who cares and posted the shot anyway.

better to have hands like that than a chin thats massaged by a scrotum :p

by the way, notice the shot under the piracy one. There is a letter directly behind the shifter. It arrived a couple of days ago from the Westmead Childrens Hospital thanking me for my contribution to your bike ride. :tilt:
