ooooo, new hardware, yay!

Looks good, first off, my ideas.
Swap that motherboard for the
LANPARTY UT Ultra-D, it’s a better board and not much on top (more features, better for overclocking if your that way inclined)

You can drop
1 M-DGE-530T D-Link Network Card DGE-530T 10/100/1000, 32bit
$35.00
The motherboard has dual 1000mbit onboard
So that’s $35 saved.

Other then that, looks like a good system, value select is the lower quality of the ram (doesn’t have heat spreaders, less overclockablity) tho its basically all the same.

But other then sin said with the modem, unless you need it, it’s a waste.

Just be careful of these Gigabit onboard interfaces. They use a Broadcom chipset which are known to be faulty, and have been faulty since Broadcom started making them about 3 years ago. They have a design fault in the way they handle Ethernet Reset's which can cause them to do wierd things.

If you only use Winblows, then you should be fine, however other operating systems (sometimes Linux, often *BSD) can do some very wierd networking things when they see these chipsets.

I'd love a screen like that Sin but it's a little out of my budget. As for the modem, I have broadband but I thought I'd chuck in an 56k anyway, I guess it is a bit pointless. Regarding the burner I have a dual layer burner I'm gonna swap over into the new one. And windows? I never got my copy when I bought my computer as I found out when it crashed and i needed a re-install. I borrowed a copy but microsoft wont let me upgrade things like Internet explorer because it's not a "legit" copy or some bull

Note tha the Ultra-D only has 2x PCI slots... I don't know about you but for me that would be a pain.
Also you could save yourself $2 and get a Netgear GA311 Network card ;)

TV tuner, and Sound card for me, im looking around at possible upgrade oppurtunities, with PCIe being a big drawcard, and mobo's are becoming a bit of a hassle for me, i found a great looking ASUS mobo with a cool little heatpipe based cooler for the chipset (im after passive cooling, nForce 4 mobo) only problem ive found is that im buying a new case with an upside down configuration (lian-li PC-V1000) and i read on a review site that the coolant in the heatpipe will then stay around the radiator, rather than the chipset block, reckon this would be a big problem? or would the thermal conductivity of the pipes be good enough?

I'm using 3 PCI cards in my home PC right now for network, sound and HDTV cards. Also if you bought an i-RAM, SCSI or SATA Card you could be in trouble.

My on board Intel Gb nic died a couple weeks back :(

So I bought a GA311 Gb nic. I think the intel chipset was definitely better. This is a realtek chipset. Nothing wrong with it really, just the intel seemed a bit quicker doing file transfers over gigabit. Also the intel drivers are nicer. But at towards $100 for a intel Gb nic, it'd want to be nice :P

Anyway, the hard disk seems really small. I'd go for a 200 gig. They cost bugger all more. $50 for almost double the space.

If you have the cash for a bigger LCD, it's def worth it. 19" LCD is nice. 17" isn't bad, but once you use a 19", a 17" just seems so small :) Should be under $500.

Nice choice on the soundcard. Just make sure you hook it up to some nice headphones or a serious stereo to get the most out of it :)

Enforcer-J,

If you're ever heading down to Adelaide, check out http://hypernetdist.com.au/ - they tend to have the cheapest prices around from what I can tell.

The DFI Motherboards usually have descent onbaord network adapters, you could go without the pci card for a while and see if you like the onbaord, if you dont the buy and add the pci card later. The DVD burner is trouble waiting to happen, I used to own one, I used it as a frizbee, yes I used the burner, not discs, as a frizbee, they are useless and will never get a correct burn. If you can afford the extra $10 get the NEC 5540, I did and havn't had a problem yet. And again, the lcd its small to todays standard and there are many larger screen with great picture quality (the BenW FP-202W as SIN posted a photo of already for example), if you can afford the money, get one. And again, a 56k modem? That is just taking up your limited pci slots, and is it really necessary? Seriously, how oftern does someone make use of their backup dialup account these days?

Edit: Another thing, you could probably make that a 200gb hdd for another $10-$15, I know money can be hard to get (as it is for me) but try, and if you get it, you will thank yourself/the arse people.
