I understand the points by Pogo and Norbs first hand. Having gone from 12 to 1 demerit point in the space of 3 weeks after buying my 2008 R6. I then managed to keep my 1 point for 9 months until finally losing it mid last year. I was put on 1 point for 12 months good behaviour and copped over $800's in fines.

Bummer goop It can be hard to resist the temptation to give it a good squirt sometimes.
I've been able to behave myself so far on the bike, yet to be stopped for anything more than a basic licence/rego check. The thought of not being able ride for a few months if I get caught probably helps keep my speed below the instant licence loss zone.

my mate has just gone off his P's and got a Ducati 848. He was telling me the other week how he passed his mate doing 210kph. I'm expecting him to either die or lose his license very soon. Hopefully it's just his license. The problem is he was doing it down country roads on his way home, while he might be capable i'd hate to think if a farmer pulled out in front of him or some sheep or whatever suddenly crossed the road. You need a fair amount of restraint riding a bike because they do go so quick so easily. Track days are a great idea, it's probably cheaper than losing your license too.

Yeah, tbh, it was a bit of a wake-up call for me, one that I know (now) that I probably needed. It sure beats the alternative. It sucks to have to have a break, I love riding so much, but hey, every cloud... Hope you mate gets away with it as lightly as I did.

I was tossing up on doing a track day, but I don't have leathers, and I think my bike might break the db limit at Qld raceway. Well, I've got six months now to sort a baffle and some leathers

I dont think you need to worry about the sound limit. It is a racetrack. And some of the bikes I have seen out there would rival a motogp bike for noise.

Leathers are cheap as right now. Two and one piece.

Just remember there are other tracks than QR too. QR is an ok track, but very bumpy right now and can be unnerving, braking into one, two and three and the exits on one, five and six can get the bike a little nervous.

It's a 90dB limit isn't it? They test the bikes, and if yours is over, no riding for you - no refund either.

What tracks would you recommend for a track-day n00b?

Just for the record, I do wear gear - touring boots, an armoured jacket, kevlar/denim jeans, and, if I'm doing highway miles, leather & kevlar gloves as well - just not leathers. Track-days require leathers though.

Well, I appealed the suspension, and had my hearing today. Was processed within an hour. I now have a restricted work licence that I can use to get to and from work, DIRECTLY, and nowhere else.

So, yeah, pretty happy with that but it's gonna be a long and twistie-less six-months. Also, maybe sex-less, as my main squeeze is 3 hours away...

I'm not really game to add up the costs that my indiscretion has cost me, but probably over three grand in fines, lost work and solicitor fees. And who can put a price on nasty no-holes-barred sex???

Oh well, it's probably one of those personal-growth/character-building things.
