i30 replacement

Post by norbs »

Gents, the little i30 is just starting to show some signs of wear and I would like to get a new car to replace it.

I would go another i30 such is my regard for this little car, but the seats are just too small for long hauls.

So, what says you lot? I imagine something slightly bigger would be the go.

I dont want a SUV. Please dont suggest a SUV. Or a BMW, Merc etc etc.

Wagon or hatch is fine, as long as I can get the bike in the back.

Do your best.

Not sure about the bike, but worth trying :)

Took the word off my mouth! :D

My business partner has one of those, a v8 turbo x5. It's a weapon. And it only needs ~26L/100km and 1L oil / 1000km if you don't push it too much, so it's quite economic, too!
But it has luxury all over it. And does a 13 second something on the quarter mile (yes we tested it at the wednesday night drags at EC)
Surprise, no sig. Now there is. Or is there?

Wow, that is only about 8x what the i30 uses in fuel! :eyepop:

I did a big shop around last year, ended up with the Levorg.. Still love it just a bit thursty (and expensive outright)

Im a huge fan of the latest Subi's, The features/value is really good.. I would checkout the Outback if I was looking at a replacement for mine

In all truth, I'm with you Norbs, I'd be happier w/o suvs. A proper wagon is much better. I've now lived with a suv, not a bad one either (on paper) it's a Nissan Murano Ti, but a decent wagon would be a nicer alternative. The storage is a bit small, and while the seats are comfortable, the car in general has a lot of ungainliness, it's way too high, you regularly hit your head on something. This is the first car ever to have this problem; both me an my wife keep hitting our head on doors & door-frames & the trunk door...not sure if it's a suv problem or this specific one. It's just not right, somehow.

Megane, Golf, Octavia are all reasonably priced small/medium wagons good on fuel. Outback or Passat if you want something larger. Commodore Sportwagon if you want something super comfortable for long trips - only a few months left!

From someone who owns a current SSV Redline Commodore Sportwagon (and I also had the SV6 in the wagon), I'd be happy to recommend them. The V8 is very thirsty, so maybe have a look at the SV6 or lower (drove from Coober Pedy to Adelaide on one tank of 98 in the SV6). Unless you want the extra power and soundtrack of the V8 (which I can recommend).

Same seats as the current ones. Just too small.

And yes, I couldn't give a fuck about exciting cars. I just want something to get me to Adelaide once a year in comfort and cheaply.

I would have thought a Skoda wagon would be aimed at someone like you. Supposed to be pretty good

What about a mazda 3 hatch? Would be slightly higher than the i30 in price and comfort I would think

That's what i have and it'd be perfect for Norbs. Not too big but not too small, great on long drives, economical, and for the most part German, but cheaper than the VW version.

Even get adaptive cruise in the base model Octavias now which would be perfect for long trips

I haven't driven any of the small cars lately but checked with my colleague David. He tells me the new i30 is excellent and Kia Cerato worth a look. If you want something bigger a Subaru Forested is really good these days. All wheel drive is excellent. And I was impressed with the Octavia. Quite versatile and well appointed.

VW Tiguan is really good too...

Thanks Smiss. The Subaru is just too expensive from what I saw on the Web site. Skoda are having 2.5% financing at the moment.
