Not since i switched to Android , my excitement is peaking around the same level as when Windows 8 is released.

Is there anything to actually get excited about?

I think you'd have to be a little weird to get excited about it. I'm curious to know where they can go from here. I can't see anything they could introduce to the hardware side of things that would make me want to upgrade yet.

The rumoured features aren't very exciting. The only thing I can think of that would really shake the industry up is if they had dedicated all development towards battery life, and announced that the iPhone 5 is basically a beefed up 4S but it'll run for a week without charge. That might shake the industry up since everyone else has concentrated entirely on the hardware arms race.

Apparently some Chinese company saw the leaked pics of it and quickly designed their own and patented it. Also HTC own the patent to LTE and are threatening to sue if the iPhone 5 has it, which it does. So Apple's recent greed might be coming back to bite them on the arse.

Now that would be a decent upgrade! I just don't care that much about quad core processors in a phone, bigger screens, or 4G.

HTC and about 49 other companies have essential patents that cover the LTE standard.

Thing is I think smart phones have pretty much got everything now. There isn't much to get exited about any more.

They all look pretty much the same, they all do pretty much the same thing and cost the same amount.

Some people are moaning that IP5 is basically going to look the same. So what? They all look like that. Flat black shiny rectangles!

Isn't that the exact opposite attitude of what Apple are supposed to be about?

What happened to Apple being the great innovators, coming up with newish ideas that "change everything" and make the industry sit up and notice?

But those ideas have now been adopted by everyone and there aren't any left. It's a phone and it's a small computer and it's a camera. There isn't a lot else you can do with it except make it thinner, lighter, faster and have more battery life.

I think one problem is this 'need' to bring out a new model every year. It was really unnecessary. Every 2-3 years would have been plenty. So all the smart phone makers have gone from nothing to everything in 4 years and now everyone moans when it doesn't look different or do something different.

There's also a really odd backlash against Apple cos it doesn't look different enough now. But the galaxy hasn't changed much either in its iterations. Neither has HTC. Some people on these tech sites and forums need to get over themselves a bit. It's just a bloody phone. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

Not really as much anymore. I barely plug mine into iTunes. It syncs wirelessly, and backs up a lot to iCloud etc.

Kev, I agree... I think the advances are mainly in the content now. I'm more interested in iOS6 than I am what they are doing with their next phone. It'll be largely the same because theres not a whole lot left to do. I don't even think I want a bigger screen. I like the size of my phone how it is.

Seems like someone found some pre-titled news pages in their search results.
iPhone5 will have LTE (don't really know what that means or why people are excited by it :D), there will also be a new iTunes, iPod Nano and iPod Touch announced today.

I got more excited to hear 4G being released in the UK by Everything Everywhere... as I'm aiming to get a GS3 with Orange :)

I think the next big thing might be a phone that isn't flat and still does what a flat one does... time for the hardware to become more flexible/adaptable to a form.

That said... I'll still read up on what it has later on...

Yeah LTE is to do with the new faster mobile networks announced by EE. I don't really understand the various mobile data networks but I assume all the new top-end phones support it.

Good call Scottie - flexible phones are surely the next big thing.

So indeed it's a bit faster, bit lighter, bit thinner, bit larger screen.
No NFC and no wireless charging. Same 8MP camera.
