Gran Turismo Sport

Post by GT VIRUS »

So it appears to be something similar to GT HD, but will be the title that has the FIA world online championship announced previously. Forza has GT well beat in GT's original build up from nothing formula, so I'm hoping that this has a focus on racing without the tuning aspect of the series.
Gran Turismo Sport Coming to PS4 in 2016
Penrose Tackie's Avatar Posted by Penrose Tackie on Oct 27, 2015 // European Brand Manager
Racing fans, brace yourselves — this evening at the Paris Games Week PlayStation Press Conference, Kazunori Yamauchi, along with SCEE CEO & President Jim Ryan, unveiled on stage the latest Gran Turismo iteration: Gran Turismo Sport, coming to PS4 in 2016.

On stage, the Polyphony team talked about the advances that PS4 offers to allow them to continue to improve the graphics, physics, and sound to deliver the most realistic driving simulator to date. But with GT Sport they’re looking to deliver more than that; to deliver a revolution in the way that people experience driving games, a figurative “rebirth” of motorsports.
FIA Gran Turismo Championships
In Gran Turismo Sport, there will be two FIA online championships running simultaneously. In the Nations Cup, players will be able represent their home country. Whilst in the Manufacturers Cup, players will be driving on behalf of their favorite car manufacturer.
Players will not only be able to race as drivers themselves, they’ll also be able to root for their home country or their favorite manufacturers teams.
The winner of the championship will be awarded in the same manner as real life motorsports champions, at the FIA prize giving ceremony. This will be a historic moment, the first time a video game will officially be recognized as part of the real motoring world.

FIA Partnership
Working alongside the historic FIA, to develop a game that continues to be more realistic and authentic, the online racing championships promise to offer something new for players.
But it’s not just about online racing; the GT teams have continued to build on the games legacy of accessibility to ensure that the game is open to all to enjoy.
With the beta expected to begin in Spring 2016, it won’t be long before players can experience all GT has to offer on the power of PS4.

Interesting but does anyone else think the car models look too floaty & not attached to the surface. They also look like they have been, like photo-shopped into the scenery.
I know it's probably alpha/beta footage but still it doesn't quite look right to me.
But I'm impressed to read that the cars are all new from the ground-up & quite possibly very unique to each other compared to how past titles have been made using "standard-car practices"...

Furthermore, GT Sport will also 19 different tracks, among them Nürburgring Nordschleife, Brands Hatch, Willow Springs and the new Tokyo Expressway have been confirmed.
bsimracing.com wrote:Now the moment a lot of Gran Turismo fans have been waiting for has finally arrived. Today, Sony Computer Entertainment and Polyphony Digital revealed details and the release date of Gran Turismo Sport at an exclusive event held at the Olympic Stadium in London.

During a 40-minute introduction, Kazunori Yamauchi officially announced that Gran Turismo Sport will become available on the PlayStation 4 on November 16th (Europe), and November 18th in the USA. To get the hype going, Polyphony Digital released a new extensive gameplay Gran Turismo Sport trailer entirely captured from a PS4. Sadly enough, Kazunori also announced that the promised beta version of the game will most probably not become available.

The launch version will contain 137 scratch build cars featuring an interior camera mode that showcases the models detailed cockpits. All the car models will be showcased in a showroom along with a video from the manufacturers. You will be able to race at 19 locations with a total of 27 track layouts, including the Nürburgring Nordschleife (North Loop), Brands Hatch, Willow Springs Raceway, a Dirt Course set in the US Midwest, and a number of brand new tracks appearing in the Gran Turismo series for the first time such as the Tokyo Expressway and the half-mile oval dubbed the Northern Isle Speedway.

Furthermore, the game will also contain a Museum, live broadcasts with live commentary and the chance to get a real FIA racing license. Players will be able to interface with the game via a smartphone and browser. For the creative minds, there is the enhanced photo mode called Scapes. Players can showcase their favorite cars in more than 1000 locations around the world. Scapes will feature a selection of camera effects and the option to feature multiple cars into a single photo.

Gran Turismo Sport will be up for preorder. Early buyers will receive the exclusive in-game Ford Mustang Group B Rally car, Peugeot 908 HDi FAP LMP1 and Toyota FT-1 Vision GT Group 3.
Besides the Gran Turismo Sport standard edition, there will also be a GT Sport Limited Edition available.

Offline
Besides the common Single Race, Time Trial, Drift Trial and two player Split-Screen modes, Gran Turismo Sport features an offline Campaign Mode providing gamers a hands-on experience to allow even beginners to learn driving skills from scratch, and later on improve their level in order to participate in major race events. The offline content features 117 events divided up in different game modes.

The offline content features 117 events divided up in different game modes:
Beginner’s School
From basic skills such as hitting the brakes and how to turn into a corner, fundamentals can be learned from the bottom up, which will prove invaluable for newcomers to driving games.

Mission Challenge
As you work your way through short missions, you will automatically pick up fundamental driving skills without even realizing it. In the end, you will have a level of skill that will allow you to participate in major race events.

Circuit Experience
Through actual experience on a race track, you will step into the true world of high-performance driving. Use the knowledge of track layouts learned in the mission challenges to pick up the basics of how to conquer a race course.

Race Etiquette
In online, as well as real races, etiquette on the track is as important as performance. Learn the rules of etiquette and sportsmanship that’s required in all player-vs-player races. Even if you’re not a top driver with lots of confidence in your skill, you will still have plenty of fun because each player will be matched fairly with people of their own level for fair and equal online racing.
Online

Sport mode
The online sport mode introduces a sportsmanship point system evaluating online race behavior. The player’s skill and behavior will be judged during daily races and will be used to match players of the same level in order to create a competitive field of racers.

the Sport Mode, will also feature the FIA Gran Turismo Championships in which two FIA-certified online championship series will be running at the same time. The first is the “Nations Cup,” where players around the world represent their home country in the series. The other is the “Manufacturer Fan Cup,” in which players select their favorite car manufacturer and represent them in the series. The FIA Gran Turismo Championship races will be broadcasts.
Now if you so inclined here is the full 3hr Gran Turismo Sport | LIVE FIA Gran Turismo Championship, Pre-Season Test...

Nothing looks to have changed to me, there isn't really a sports focus that is being hyped with the fantasy cars and tracks being included. Looks like another Prologue release.

While I'm not going to call Gran Turismo done, just looking at how much better forza is now in every single way, it's hard to be optimistic.

Alan Boiston of TeamVVV visited the Gran Turismo Sport launch event at the Olympic Stadium in London and captured some interesting footage. At the show, Sony Computer Entertainment, and Polyphony Digital revealed the details and the release date of the upcoming Gran Turismo Sport title for the PlayStation 4.

Interestingly, at the show floor near the bar, Trustmaster showcased what could be the long-awaited successor to the famed Thrustmaster RS 500 racing wheel. The new Thrustmaster Gran Turismo Sport branded racing wheel is not yet officially introduced by Thrustmaster, and currently has no official name or a price indication.

From what we can see in the video, the highly detailed wheel features a leather and chrome finish and houses a set of metal paddle shifters, the well-known PlayStation buttons with D-Pad, 4 chrome dials, and two analog sticks. The wheel also looks to use the Thrustmaster patented semi quick-release system which could indicate that the Thrustmaster Gran Turismo Sport branded racing wheel could be compatible with the Thrustmaster’s ECO system’s line of optional steering rims.

We expect that more news about the Thrustmaster Gran Turismo Sport branded racing wheel to be shared on June 14-16, 2016 at this year’s E3 – Electronic Entertainment Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Gran Turismo 6 on the Playstation 3 was the first Gran Turismo title to ever offer dynamic time of day racing and weather, adding two often-requested features to the series.
Now, it’s confirmed that the franchise has lost this set of features again as Gran Turismo Sport for the Playstation 4 will feature neither weather or changeable time of day. While players will be set to dry racing conditions, there will be an option to choose different times of day to race on, conditions will remain set though has there will be no transitions through the time of day, regardless of how long you race.

“We opted to not have the transitions in the race this time in order to raise the framerate and the quality of the image *during* the race. So the user will be able to set that before they enter the race. So you’ll still be able to have night races, morning, races at dawn, dusk, and so on, ” Kazunori Yamauchi commented to GTPlanet.

Cutting both features will allow Polyphony Digital to increase the title’s grid sizes though as Gran Turismo Sport will be the first GT title to over 20-car grids.

Gran Turismo Sport will feature 130+ cars, all of which have been built from the ground up as the studio is ditching their controversial standard-car practice of past GT titles.
Furthermore, GT Sport will also 19 different tracks, among them Nürburgring Nordschleife, Brands Hatch, Willow Springs and the new Tokyo Expressway have been confirmed.

The title will be exclusively available for the Playstation 4 starting November 15 (US) and November 18 (Europe) respectively.

John Sabol from Inside Sim Racing visited the 2016 E3 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles and had the opportunity to try out the Gran Turismo Sport WIP title.

After the first GT Sport test session, John’s ended up having some mixed impressions about Polyphony Digital’s newest creating. Having to drive different development builds of the game, John noticed that the physics and feel varied from day to day which made it very difficult to share an overall impression.

Interestingly, John mentioned that the physics of the most recent GT Sport build felt very similar to the physics of the Assetto Corsa Console version that was also on Demo at the E3 show.

Catching up on some GTS news;
In a recent interview with Chinese news outlet Sina, Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed that Gran Turismo Sport is currently around “70% Complete” and improvements are occurring on a ‘daily basis’ to ready the game for it’s November release.

The full interview has a lot of the information that is already known but this is the first time Kazunori has made comment on the actual development state of the title in quite a while. The quote of interest also makes a comparison to the progression since the Copper Box event, where the game was unveiled to the public:

“We’re hard at work every day, and the game keeps improving daily. The progress during the London reveal was at 50%, and now it’s around 70%. There are still many aspects which can be further improved.”

Response from the Copper Box Arena event was mixed initially, with players praising the new focus and features of the game but also feeling slightly underwhelmed with the sound and certain graphical elements of the latest entry. Since then, it has been confirmed that there will be a new sound system in place, new builds have been made playable at numerous events around the world and with this latest comment, it’s clear Yamauchi wishes to keep improving the title before it releases officially.

By Kazunori’s estimation, GT Sport has moved forward by 20% in a 2 month span — this indicates that although there is still work to go, the team is still on schedule to have the game ready for release and seemingly make any necessary changes along the way.

The indication that PD and Yamauchi have identified areas for improvement once again reiterates that with every new piece of footage or imagery, it would be wise not to treat it as representative of the finished product set to land in the PS4’s of players this November.
Alongside dropping the news that GT Sport is currently 70% complete, Kazunori Yamauchi has also revealed an interesting insight into how Polyphony Digital view the latest entry in the Gran Turismo series.

Spin-offs are nothing new to the franchise: Prologues and Concept editions have peppered the series history, along with the handheld entry that featured on Sony’s PlayStation Portable system. However, for those who expect that Sport will join these titles in being a spin-off, Yamauchi has revealed where he believes GT Sport sits in the Gran Turismo spectrum to Chinese gaming site A9VG:

“GT SPORT is a regular title of the GT Series. The gaming contents is so ample that you can consider it as ”Gran Turismo 7“. It is titled ” GT Sport“ because the “Sport Mode” of the game is important. If I have to change a statement, maybe “Gran Turismo 7 Sport” is more correct name.”

“Gran Turismo 7 Sport” would be a more representative name for the game with its breadth of content and new eSport focus according to Kaz. It’s an interesting thought, and one which seems to provide further evidence to support the claim that GT Sport will receive hundreds of new cars post-release. Perhaps this quote will calm fears that in chasing a new gaming experience, the unique Gran Turismo experience will be forgotten.

This isn’t the first time that Kazunori has commented on the nature of the game’s title. MotorWorldHype conducted an interview with the Gran Turismo director around the time of E3, where a similar question is asked at the start of the video:

Kazunori comments that:
“For me, Gran Turismo Sport is Gran Turismo 7. Gran Turismo Sport is something that marks the beginning of a new generation or era. When you consider Gran Turismo 1-6 as the first era, GT Sport marks a new generation moving forward.”

Based on these remarks, GT Sport should not be viewed as a spin-off, but a natural step forward in the modern age of gaming — where online functionality is valued just as highly as a core single-player experience. Add in the surge in popularity of eSports/competitive gaming and it becomes clear why PD wants in on the action. The title will remain ‘Gran Turismo Sport’ but the spirit of GT7 (whatever it may be) is definitely evident.
While nothing substantial has been revealed courtesy of GT Sport’s visit to China — at least in terms of new content shown — the interviews that continue to surface shed light on a number of subjects that highlight continued support for the title past its release later this year.

As a result of these interviews we’ve now been made aware that once it’s all said and done, GT Sport could eventually boast a roster of up to 500 cars, the upcoming entry is now 70% complete with updates occurring daily, and that it very well could have been called GT7 Sport as it offers the same complete experience as other entries in the franchise.

Continuing with the recent interview with Chinese news outlet Sina, Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed that plans are afoot to bring the Shanghai International Circuit, home of the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix, to GT Sport.

“We’ve actually wanted to add the Shanghai International Circuit since a while back, and we’re currently making arrangements.”

Gran Turismo series producer Kazunori Yamauchi is a huge fan of the Nürburgring 24h race in which he has participated as a racing driver. In this year’s edition of the Nürburgring 24h Kaz competed behind the wheel of the Walkenhorst Motorsport BMW M6 GT3.

It will come as no surprise that the Walkenhorst Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 will be included in the upcoming GT Sport iteration of Gran Turismo. Even better, there is a slight possibility that the public will be able to take a test drive of the BMW M6 GT3 in the GT Sport version at this year’s Gamescom in Cologne, Germany from 17 – 21 August 2016. (Keep in mind that the 17th is strictly reserved for the press and trade visitors.)

Polyphony Digital will be present at the Gamescom trade fair to promote Gran Turismo Sport. Their booth design has been inspired by the famous Caracciola-Karussell corner on the Nordschleife circuit and will feature fifteen gaming stations lined up in the shape of the iconic banked hairpin. The Walkenhorst Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 car in which Kazunori Yamauchi raced the 2016 24H will also be on display at the Polyphony Digital booth.

To promote the upcoming title and create some media hype, Polyphony Digital released a new documentary called “ Made From Reality ”. In this docu about the 44th Nürburgring 24h, we can follow Kazunori Yamauchi and his racing team during the race preparations and the battle to the checkered flag.

The “ Made From Reality ” video also confirmed that the BMW M6 GT3 will be featured in Gran Turismo Sport. During the KAZ interviews, observant viewers may notice the in-game footage of the Walkenhorst Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 at the GT Sport Nordschleife version.

GT Sport will become available for the PlayStation 4 on November 15 in North America and November 18 in Europe.

GT will be more refined that either of those, and more realistic than pCARS :P

It's only the brand that is keeping it going though, as a game it's been thoroughly outclasses by the competition. As a simulator it is just too hampered by the need to be mass appeal with the tyres. GT6 really has the making of a good sim underneath it, just the tyres that let it down mostly.

I think GT Sport has potential to be good for sim racing as a genre though. If the esports ambitions are realised, it'll flow to the rest of the genre. A big name like GT getting it right could be the ticket to more mass-appeal sim racing

And so it begins...
Sony and Polyphony Digital have officially announced that the release of their upcoming Gran Turismo Sport title for the PlayStation 4 will not meet its November 2016 deadline. In order to make GT Sport the best Gran Turismo version to date, the game is now scheduled for a 2017 release with no exact date yet given.
Aug 30, 2016 // Founder of Polyphony Digital, Creator of Gran Turismo Kazunori Yamauchi said: Hello GT community. I want to share the news that we have made the difficult decision to delay the release of Gran Turismo Sport to 2017. GT Sport is Polyphony‘s foremost competitive gaming title, with high expectations from both the fans and from within our team.

From the start, the title has been one of our most ambitious undertakings, using the latest technologies, such as physics-based rendering and sound simulations, and Scapes photo mode. In combining these features with a new Sport mode, we are offering a competitive gaming experience to truly reinvent what it means to be a racing game. We’ve been excited and humbled by the response each time we’ve shared new gameplay with everyone.

However, as we approach our planned release date in November, we realise we need more time to perfect GT Sport, to which we’ve already dedicated so much effort to since announcing the title, and do not want to compromise the experience. While we cannot confirm a new release date at this time, we are more committed than ever to making GT Sport the best Gran Turismo game to date.

GT Sport will continue to be shown at several gaming events around the world. I hope everyone has the opportunity to experience first-hand the yet-to-be revealed cutting edge experiences that will be achieved by GT Sport. Thank you for all your continued support
