Heya boys.

I know the chances of any of you blokes playing Gran Turismo is slim, but i just thought i'd throw it out there and see if there are any closet GT LANers out there .....?

This is an ongoing timesheet involving road going cars with road tires in LAN mode (other classes of car are also catered for though) at the great Nurburgring. I've been running it for a while over at the Spirit of Gran Turismo forums (those German blokes seem to enjoy the Green Hell), and quite a few times are currently listed. Also started a similar thread at the GT Times for some submissions by Bobkart and his Lan group.TorcTalk has its own thread as well, with a regular bunch of fast New Zealanders that have submitted hundreds of times. Participating threads can be found -

An Excel spreadsheet is available at the link provided at the end of this post.

Basically all you need is 2 - 6 guys hooked up to GT4 in Lan mode. Go to the Nurburgring. All select Road Cars and use Road Tires (RD) with NO TIRE WEAR. You can run up to 4 laps maximum (but less if you like, most guys run 2 or 3laps).

I'm trying to encourage guys to use cars that they have a genuine interest in. Its fine if you want to try out superquick cars that have a chance of topping the timesheet (remembering that the timesheet has a few different catagories based on power). But don't be afraid to run something a bit slower or less popular if you really like it in real life. Its all about trying to simlulate the real world road car battles that you would see everyday at the Nurburgring. You can run the Lan as races all trying to battle it out, or you can stagger the starts. Slipstreaming is allowed, but i'm not wanting groups of Lan players all trying to run some sort of intentional slipstreaming group effort in order to get superquick times. Run like you would in real life and have some fun around this great track. Sometimes we run identical cars, other times we run completely different machines and get totally different times, but when you have the timesheet to look at you can still get some fun knowing that you have hundreds of times to compare with. Try and run the track as cleanly as possible, but of course off track incidents may happen - but do NOT cut corners or run rails intentionally!

Remembering the real life rules of the Nurburgring, if a faster car is comming through, give it racing room.

What to submit:
Date/No of Drivers/No of Laps/Cars used/Controller Used/Lan Location

What ya waiting for. Start your engines and get cracking.

And if there are any guys in SE Queensland who fancy a bit of racing then don't be shy in inviting yourself over for a quick blast around the Nurburgring.

Ole Righteous who waved the aussie flag so well in the 'piggbyback guide' competition?

Remembering that these times were in LAN mode with other guys racing. No hotlaps i'm afraid.

Wish i had a hotlap list going, but unfortunately this is for LAN mode races only. Sorry blokes.

My brother in law and i can usually hook up our two PS2's for some simple LAN racing. Shame the game only lets you choose stock arcade cars in LAN mode.

Always on the lookout for local guys (SE Queensland) who want to join in with some GT4 LAN racing. We are normal sort of guys :yikes: mostly ....

Timesheet Updated

Got a fair few new times from some simple two player LAN laps my bro in law and i did. And quite a few quality times comming in from some kiwi racers (cur and paste from TT forums) -
Loctation: Auckland, New Zealand
Laps: 2
Date: 24.12.06
Controller: Driving Force Pro

Run 1 - Drivers: 4

Name: Hayden
Time: 7:21.904
Car: Mine’s Skyline GT-R N1 V-spec ‘00

Name: Joe Racer
Time: 7:22.393
Car: Mine’s Skyline GT-R N1 V-spec ‘00

Comment: This car is one hell of a beast. None of us got the best out of it so there is plenty of time to be had. I spun very early in the lap and spent much of it chasing Hayden. He had a spin and I got ahead again. Then I had a lurid moment through the Hedwigshöhe corners, arms and elbows all over the place preventing a tank slapper from happening. So then went into conservation to complete the lap. Another attempt for another day I think...

Name: TheForce
Time: 7:37.881
Car: Mine’s Skyline GT-R N1 V-spec ‘00

Time: 7:41.285
Car: Mugen Motul Civic Race Car / Tyres : Racing Medium

Name: Joe Racer
Time: 7:44.456
Car: Mugen Motul Civic Race Car / Tyres : Racing Medium

Comment: After trying this car once before, and spinning it, I knew there was improvement awaiting. I had a good run going and was making good progress, 2 seconds quicker than Hayden at the sector between Klostertal and Steilstrecke. Then it all went wrong with a most peculiar spin exiting the Karussell. I got stuck in the lower grove and the back end came around. Freakin’ freaky it was. So two spins in two attempts with this car. At least I improved my time, even if it was only by 0.241

Thought i might as well bump this thread with some new times. Never know when a new GT junkie might come out of the closet :p

Mananged to get in a few Nurburgring laps over the last few days. Had some 2 player runs on Friday, then some 3 player runs on Saturday, then a couple more on today . The ole bones are sore i tell ya.

27/07/2007
2 drivers / 2 laps
8’49.604 – NWS77 – 1992 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR
8’45.038 – Rypien – 1990 Mazda RX7 GT-X
Comments – Love the FC RX7. Reasonably close match with the original old Mitsubishi Evo.

27/07/2007
2 drivers / 2 laps
9'20.158 - NWS77 - 1997 Toyota Starlet Glanza V
9'19.554 - Rypien - 1997 Toyota Starlet Glanza V
Comments - Always had a soft spot for this little Japanese Import. Almost bought one a fair few years back when i was in my boy racer days A surpising good drive around the Nurburgring despite its small turbo and humble performance.

27/07/2007
2 drivers / 3 laps
8'01.570 - NWS77 - 1999 Dodge Viper
8'14.794 - Rypien - Nissan Skyline GTR Vspec II (R32)
Comments - Nigel improved his old Viper time by 15 odd seconds if menory serves me correct. He still struggled with the big american beast on the road tires. I took out the Vspec version of the great 'Godzilla' GTR and sqeezed myself a couple of seconds over my previous older spec Skyline R32.

27/07/2007
2 drivers / 3 laps
8'05.826 - NWS77 - 2004 FPV F6 Typhoon
7'59.364 - Rypien - 2004 Subaru WRX Spec C
Comments - Nigel just missed out on a new PB by a few hundreths of a second, while i was very happy to take the Suby 4WD monster under the 8 minute mark. I was suprised to see how close i was to the top two WRX times on the leaderboard. Might come back to this one at some stage as it was a sloppy lap.

28/07/2007
3 drivers / 2 laps
8'06.241 - NWS77 - 2004 FPV Typhoon
8'03.241 - Rypien - 2001 Mazda RX7 Bathurst
8'03.717 - VTRacing - 2004 Lotus Elise 111R
Coments - Nigel tried and failed once again in his F6 Typhoon quest . I'm around 3 seconds off my previous PB in the RX7, while VTRacing was warming up his Lotus skills by being all over the back of the RX7 on the first lap and then keeping good close splits going for lap 2.

28/07/2007
3 drivers / 2 laps
DNF - NWS77 - Pagani Zonda C12S 7.3
7'28.085 - Rypien - 2003 Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren
7'39.850 - VTRacing - 2005 BMW M5
Comments - Nigel had a horrid time in the Zonda and had quite a few words to say about it. VTRacing enjoyed the M5 and looking at the timesheet his time is very competitive in a long list of M5's. I was suprised to see that my time now leads the FR drivetrain class in the 350kW+ catagory. The Merc is a defainte raocketship, and even on road tires is a pleasure to drive around the Green Hell. I'm sure some good driver could take it to the top of the pile in the 350kW+ catagory without any doubt.

28/07/2007
3 drivers / 3 laps.
8'05.682 - NWS77 - 2004 FPV Typhoon
7'44.504 - Rypien - 2004 Aston Martin Vanquish
8'01.410 - VTRacing - 2004 Lotus Elise 111R
Comments - Nigel was obsessed with the big ole aussie turbo 6, but kept just missing out on on new PB. VTRacing had a blistering run in the Lotus and now sits second outright in the sub 150kW class (less than a second off Joe Racers 8 minte run). I enjoyed the Aston and it sits favorably when compared to the other Astons that have already hit the track previously. Gotta luv the big ole V12 machine.

29/07/2007
2 drivers / 2 laps
8'11.472 - NWS77 - 2004 FPV Typhoon
8'03.156 - Rypien - 2001 RX7 Bathrust
Comments - Both of us had big plans of getting new PB's in cars that we have previously run to death. Nigel had a shocker, and i had a very good start (49.2 1 at T1, and a 5'57 at T8) but got a little cautious at the end.

29/07/2007
2 drivers / 2 laps
8'05.788 - NWS77 - 2004 FPV Typhoon
8'02.492 - Rypien - 2004 FPV Typhoon
Comments - I've always wanted to crack under the 8 minute mark in the Typhoon, but was happy to set a new PB anyways. Poor ole Nigel just missed out again. Got no sympathy from me though! Looking at the timesheet i can see that two guys have gotten the Typhoon into the 7'57 mark. WOW.

29/07/2007
2 drivers / 2 laps
7'47.594 - NWS77 - 2004 Aston Martin Vanquish
7'45.329 - Rypien - 2003 Aston Martin DB9
Comments - Jeez these cars are great looking. Nigel had a bad off and his time could have been very quick indeed. Speaking for myself i was happy to put in a solid run in the older DB9 and am happy with its position in the timesheet when compared to other Astons.

29/07/2007
2 drivers / 3 laps
7'46.269 - NWS77 - 2004 Aston Martin Vanquish
7'47.445 - Rypien - 2000 TVR Tuscan Speed 6
Comments - I remeber seeing Small_Fryz take this car for a whirl at an old lan, and was keen to give it a go to as i had previously run it in an OLR series over at the now defunct GTX forums. Suprised to see how competitve the little TVR is.

29/07/2007
2 drivers / 3 laps
7'46.973 - NWS77 - 2003 Aston Martin DB9
8'43.915 - Rypien - 1999 Spoon Integra Type R
Comments - Nigel got himself a new PB in his DB9 (taking some 4 seconds off his last effort earlier in the year). I enjoyed the 'tuned' version of the Integra, but failed to get the best out of the car due to the Red Bull running out and my eyes getting sore (not to mention my arse from sitting down all day).

Till next time. happy racing.

Timesheet Updated

Lots of new entries and some very impressive times. Good to have some GTPlanet drivers with times submitted in some tough catagories.

The New Zealanders from Torctalk sure ripped things up with alot of my old times tumbling to a few of the kiwis. Seems like i've got a target on my bumper! Joe Racer set some new PB's and one of em was a super impressive NSX time to top the 151 - 250kw class. Very impressive time indeed.

Looking through the times its good to compare drivers and car types. I usually sort my Excel file into specific types of car to see how things compare that way. My favorite sub catagories to watch atm are -

The current top times for the NSX are dominated by the kiwis. I cant seem to get a handle on the MR machines -

Remembering that this is in Lan mode, road tyres, no tyre wear. I've got the basic list in the opening post, but if anyone wants the full Excel spreadsheet then PM me your email addy and i'll fire it away to you. The spreadsheet is a waaaay better tool to use for time comparisions

A mate has kindly offered to host the timesheet on his web space. Instead of downloading the zip file, you can now see the results here - http://www.joeracer.designdesktop.com/m ... ET2008.xls (link also in opening post).
