Minecraft 1.0.0 is up and running

Post by Shonky »

The server is up and running with our existing map. :D :D :D

For those that were put off by all the recent map resets, this should be over now, and you are welcome to come back to building on the server if you wish, I'm not sure about how others feel but I would like to stay on the one map for a considerable amount of time which will allow us to build some epic stuff, and try out some bukkit plugins once they are developed for 1.0.0.

Anyway, have at it. :D

[Update 3-12-11]
To keep everything fair for all players, we have now disabled ops so there is no giving of items, some people felt that allowing the give command de-valued the hard work others put in gathering the materials by hand, it is a survival server after all.

Minecraft 1.0.0 is up and running

I'm all for a fresh start to build something epic :)

1.0 and away we go rather than making 1.0 an extension of the beta.

I'm good for a fresh start as long as I get to /giveme 64 diamonds.... Don't play much and when I have played I've been mining diamonds, so I have a few!

Won't be on the server for a while as I'm addicted to Skyrim at present.

i guess my thoughts are that with 1.0 we are back on a level playing field for all. agree with Neil though. do it now or not at all. those using the server in recent times are used to a new map from time to time. :)

Okay I guess, I was happy to keep the current map but if the majority want a fresh start I guess I can live with it.

I'm happy to continue with the current world, but won't get to upset if we want a restart. :)

good move. I dont want to change the map just for me - but those who have been active lately deserve the right to keep the map over the fly by nighters who will ultimately go again anyway.

Good question, how long should we wait, 6 pm today? Anyone have any objections to this, or should we give it at least 24 hours?

isn't it beneficial code-wise to reset the map?
I've voted "yes" for this reason, but in hindsight, if you guys want to retain what you had, and it makes no difference map generation wise, it does not matter after all.
Surprise, no sig. Now there is. Or is there?

Well i guess i'll chuck my 2 cents in. I really enjoy the map where on now, I've built some of the coolest things on it to date, but with a new map means new building opportunity. Also marjority of the votes are for new map. If we go new map are we sticking with it for a while?, so i can build something extraordinary. I just enjoy building weird and wonderful things :)

I was up till almost 5am last night collecting stuff in prep for 1.0... Looks like I just missed the release! Anyway Its always the same deal with a map reset but maybe slightly different in this case because (Im affected :p ) and alot of the non-regular players are coming back. Theres a few of us who have invested quite a lot of time in the current map under the pretense that it wouldn't be reset. I went and put in Nether portals to the strongholds etc! Spend days leveling up to get enchants.

I always love the first night with lots of people running around on a new seed. I will be annoyed but not upset if we start again. Fresh starts have there upsides. But then if I lose all my enchants (100's of levels worth), all my tnt (:D), my three large chests of rotting flesh, my two xp mob grinders, etc , that'd really suck. It doesn't make sense to penalise the people who put in the effort by resetting the map. Is there any reason other then people wanting to start again? The map generation won't change as far as I know.

EDIT: Also if the seed is changing I am going to use my stack of tnt to blow up Crows town (sorry mate but I want to blow SOMETHING up with this tnt... no point wasting it :D).

Those that would have the objection probably won't read this before 6pm :D

I don't believe there has been any changes to the terrain engine since 1.9pre5 but without a changelog we won't know, and I'm guessing this could be a while off unless the devs had it written before heading to Minecon and just need someone to post it up for them.

[EDIT]

Scrap that, changed my mind, maybe a new map is the go given the info below.

http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Versi ... ory#B1.0.0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Finished Biome code and new Biomes.

Snowy Biomes.
Swamp Biomes adjusted to appear "swampier."
Darker Grass
Darker Water
Lily Pads
Mushroom Biomes.
Naturally generated Huge Mushrooms.
New Mushroom Cow, the Mooshroom.
Mycelium blocks.

Personally, I don't mind if we change the map or not.

I did kind of like my hole in the ground :) but a new map provides new opportunities to do something new.

As for the terrain gen changes Shonky listed above; I think most of them were implemented in the various pre-releases, just not the official 1.8.1 release.

One thing though; If we do reset the map, I'm hoping it stays for a lot longer than our recent maps.
