I know there is policies & treaties governing all of this but it is still very sad to see them end like this.

Sorry as I couldn't get this embedded using the vimeo code tag...?

A shame more of them couldn't go up as gate guards or memorials around the country.

I wonder how many of the American airframes are still sitting at Davis Monthan AFB? Just looked at google earth and not many on its most recent shot. A bunch of B-57s though - maybe they make good drones?

I loved that jet... thought it looked mad, sounded mad and had sweet tricks. Thought it got the job done too.

Oh well :( I'll remember it with the model I got.

Video set to not embed.

Good it is getting done and all, but if it meant to be hush hush why post a video.

And nobody thought to ask at the time. What were we getting ourselves in for?

There was another guy there called Bruno Sanna.

I've met Frank Chapman - in the cockpit of the prototype A380. I used to have his business card. Great bloke, gave me plenty of time.

That was bloody nicely done too. Those things have been known to go horribly wrong.

My pleasure Hutchy. Glad you enjoyed it.

Don't know if this belongs here or in the space thread. This is an amateur-built rocket which went to 121,000 ft! It also exceeded Mach 3 on the way, achieving that in nine seconds. It had a peak speed of around 3200 ft/sec (975 m/s). Max acceleration was in excess of 15G. Max dynamic pressure was 18000 (not sure what but I think it's lbs/sq ft).

I don't know how many GoPros were wrecked in the process but I do know the side-looking one was completely destroyed, even though they were able to rescue the card. The whole thing just melted. The downward-looking one was protected by an epoxy fairing which melted due to kinetic heating and left that black smear over the lens.

Long version:

I don't know what the propellant was but most amateur rocket engines seem to be made of a mix of potassium nitrate and sugar (KNO3).

One of these days I'm going to join the Tripoli Rocketry Association. Been wanting to do it for years. I can't imagine what it must be like to build something in your garage which can go supersonic (or blow up). Go hard or go home!

Not a video as such, but a breakdown on how things work, eg link is to a jet engine.
