Why would it be a joke?
I'm not an aerospace engineer, but that shape/form seems to appear enough (spy planes?). It seems to me it provides a lot of "wing" surface, therefore probably good fuel usage and may even glide better, or run on one engine if need to.

...and if well done you can hold gladiator shows during the flight :D
Surprise, no sig. Now there is. Or is there?

I think Smiffy is talking about the seat configuration. Lifting body and flying wing designs are about as old as the aeroplane itself.

Yep, the seating configuration is what made me go WTF? All that plane for a handful or seats set in a circle. I hope it doesn't have windows, because that would be seriously unsettling to fly in.

Wait, what?
What I meant in my absolutely layman terms is that I've no education nor experience in designing or manufacturing aircrafts.
Sorry if I've used the wrong term, feel free to correct me, as you might know, English isn't my mother tongue.

Ah ok, yeah it's a bit funny. But I guess there's a reason - possibly structural?

And really, you can run a G20 summit or a small circus very well in there :D

It'd be fun to run through the patents that have been lodged over the years that have never been built.

My attempt at humour has obviously failed.

I figured nobody here on the forum was an aerospace engineer and that it didn't need to be pointed out....

Carry on. :D

Hey! My research was an aerospace engineering thesis!

But I only know about auto-rotating seeds...

I lol'd at your joke by the way. :D

More surface area for solar panels. They could solve the window issue by making it glass bottomed :)
