Much tougher than GPL!

Post by Big Kev »

As a learning exercise I'm trying to do the same car/track combo you guys are doing in your race series but looking at your 'qually' times, I'm miles away. At the moment I'm averaging 6-8s a lap off the back of the grid time.

I've just been trying some laps at silvy in the BMW Z4 GT3. With the default setup I can do a 2.09. I found a setup online from a guy who said he does 1.57 with it. I managed to slice one whole second off my time with a 2.08.0

You guys are currently doing 2.01s.

I don't remember GPL being as tricky as this :) I'm struggling to work out where I'm losing such a large amount of time.

Without seeing a replay it's hard to know what you are doing, but I dare say that you're probably just loosing time mid corner. These cars can carry a lot of speed through the slow corners. I know I had to constantly remind myself at Imola, to keep the speed up around the hairpin.

If you can save a replay then it would be easier to see where you're missing the time.

Look on YouTube for someone that has posted up a fast lap in the same car. Once you watch it a few times you can get a good idea of breaking points and speed :)

Kev, go here to grab my replays & sets for both the Z4 GT3 & M3 GT2. ;)

http://www.arseforums.com/phpBB/viewtop ... 79#p382379" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You will most likely need to adjust the brake bias as I use a load cell brake mod.
Other than that be careful with the Z4 on the first lap until the tyres warmup, it's very taily & understeery until they are warmed up. ;)
I found the Z4 can be a touch later / deeper on brake application into the sharper corners but you have to brake earlier & lighter to slow more for the high speed sweepers.
Both behave similarly on power down from corner exit for me.
Have fun trying them & hopefully they help you reduce your lap times. :D

I've done a 2:04.093 so far on the default set up and I think I can get more time through Stow and Club in the Z4 GT3.

Thanks :)

This is a 2.07.9 with your setup.

I did get a 2.06 but didn't get the replay.

I'm probably just not attacking it enough so I lose a little bit everywhere but I feel I don't have another 5+ seconds in me to be honest!!

By the way, on your replay you start a couple of corners from the end. Is that a hack to avoid having to do an outlap?

I was finding the same thing Kev about speed but I found that braking into Stow, for example, brake late and the back end will start to go out and stuff it into Stow in 4th gear. Also I found my line through Maggots, Becketts and Chapel could have been better. After a while I jumped into a Lotus 98T on 100% boost and holy crap, that was fun! :)

No hack Kev, it's Hotlap Mode under the Challenges menu. ;)

LOL that my set made you slower. I'd say you just need more time & practice with the sim. ;)

I'll check your replay & let you know if I see anything obvious that might make up some time for you.

In case you weren't aware, make sure tyre wear is turned on. If you have it off with the GT3 cars and use soft tyres you'll be 5+ seconds off the pace.

Really, where did you hear that???

I also thought your HL won't count if tyre wear is turned of???

I suck at this track... Too long (for me) a lap, finding it hard to learn.
