netKar Pro To Become Freeware

Post by Duke »

Kunos Simulazioni has announced that support for their netKar Pro title will be ending in December 2015.

With the studio having successfully moved on to their Assetto Corsa simulation, support for its predecessor is ending as Kunos is no longer checking activations for the old title anymore.

Instead locking out gamers of their product completely, Kunos is going a different route as netKar Pro is effectively becoming an unsupported freeware, the multiplayer lobby servers have been announced to be be shut down on December 1, 2015.

The final 1.3 version of netKar Pro was released in late 2011, the title even has a feature that has not made it into Assetto Corsa as netKar Pro comes with wet weather functionality, unlike its successor.

Nice, moving along and not locking older stuff down.

nkp also had ballast...unlike the successor :/

Sadly the selection of cars/tracks was severely limited.

Interactive cockpits was about the only memorable feature of nKPro for me.

It's a nice gesture and something other software developers could learn from.

"Kunos Simulazioni has announced that support for their netKar Pro title will be ending in December 2015."

Some might contend that support ended soon after it was released.

What makes AC so different from NK is the post release support. NK was released and only a few patches and 1 new track was released afterwards, whereas AC has had massive support and a highly active community.

What makes it even more different is the amount of content (real life) and mods. Im still surprised the good stuff from nkpro didnt make it in...yet?

I think they gave up on Netkar as soon as everyone asked for their money back.

Lost interest in it.

Not really, Neil. Kunos got some nervous brakedown or somesuch, and disappeared for a year or so. He just could not take the cheerful & overly friendly simracer fans.
During this time most people have left nkP.

But after a while he crawled back, and released a few patches, and with the 1.3 it was actually quite decent.

And I agree Enforcer; the moddability and mod-support was another great difference.
