DaveWS has posted some new sounds for the game over at the official forum. Here's a direct link to download the latest version:

IMHO, the sounds are a lot meatier and really give a much better sense that you're driving a racing car. I think that the MRT sounds a little too powerful, but most of the other sounds are a big improvement.

I like em, much better. The race cars are more raw, sound a bit like race cars now.

Still need to be much better but these are great in the mean time.
