Price of cars around the world

Post by ashsimmonds »

I've often sat there thinking about the prices of cars - most of the people I chat online with are Aussie, US, or UK, and so I generally know pretty well the price of cars in each region. But I wanted to know more, so I went through a bunch of the worldwide Porsche 997 GT2 pages to check out prices from around the world. Real eye-opening stuff!

Full article here (with links to each reference page etc):

And here's the basic stats in $AUD at current exchange rates:
$218k - US
$269k - Canada
$270k - Japan
$291k - UK
$299k - Switzerland
$316k - Germany
$319k - France
$320k - Italy
$347k - Brunei
$349k - Spain
$425k - Australia
$465k - China
$504k - Hong Kong
$594k - Malaysia
$920k - Denmark

As far as the whacked out Denmark price goes, that is legitimate!

I've been googling and it seems Danes get taxed 180% of the car price to put a license plate on it!!!

Just google Denmark car taxes to look stuff up yourself and be amazed! :(

I was going to say you can put most of that down to the specific tax requirements and modifications needed to comply with a countries regulaions...but fark me 400k difference!? thats insane, interesting post Ash :)

Not all tax though - $200k between here and America is crazy. They just have cheap cars over there. Lucky bastards.

Cheaper to move out of Denmark and buy a car, than live there and buy one.

Be interesting to see what the actual cost was, if you imported one from OS...say Japan (They use RH Drive I think).

Singapore is terrible too. They do that to try and reduce the number of cars on the road. It also made cars into even more of a status symbol there. I used to do a lot of business travel there and one hotel I stayed at had a big circular driveway. There was a wedding reception on and the cars were parked by the valet's on display: Porsche GT3, Ferrari, Porsche 911, Lotus, Ferrari, Porsche, Porsche, Merc, etc etc. I don't know what they cost, but a Camry was $60K at the time. I think I saw an add for a Lotus Elise around $300K new.
