You're not running Peer Guardian or some other IP blocker are you?
I had a similar problem & that was the cause for me.

I was 1000kms from the problem. 'twas Rod with the problems, I could join other races.

no not running anything like that. I found i could join some races but i'd get kicked within a minute. The biggest issue was us setting up our own servers, we just couldn't get them to show on racecast.

A mate and I tried to have a quick practice recently and couldn't get it working either.

Apparently you need to open/forward ports 34000 to 35000 on your router to get rF working, but it didn't work for us. A mate of ours hosts our races and doesn't have any trouble though.

we opened those ports and it never worked. I had a look through RSC and it seems it's a common issue.

Might be your router.

I opened the ports on my old router & still couldnt host. Can't remember what it was, ( Dlink 804 or something) but on my new router I have no such issues.

there are three ports you need to forward

they are:

34297
34397
34447

it works for me when you do that, any other problems and give me and chaz a yell woodsy we dabble with rfactor most nights and recently found a really fun combo..shoot us up on msn ...wait that came out wrong..

rfactor is really really picky when it comes to servers.

friend of mine couldnt figure it out, yet he had done it about 50 times in the past :\
