how much is that by the way?? my mate who works at a camera house can do the body for $3999 which is at no profit to them at all after ordering it in etc. RRP is only about $300 more. Theres aparently not much mark up on bodies or lenses... most the markup is on accessories... battery grips, batterys, cables etc etc.

Speed and I paid $3695 for ours. My Dad got his at the same time, plus we all got batteries, CF cards and other bits and pieces as well so it was a pretty big sale for them. We got them from PRA Imaging in Perth (I've mentioned them before) and their advertised price on their website is $3895 which is as good as I've seen anywhere. Oh, and by the way, I still love mine!

You do realize that "at no profit to them" in reality means "only 20-30% mark up" ?

I don't know that that would be accurate. I would expect that they probably make 25% to 30% at full rec. retail which noone sells at.
But then again, I'm only assuming. :)

yeah thats about right speed. I believe the 3999 was reduced as far as they could do it. Meaning, if my mate wanted to order it from canon, he woudl pay what the store pays, plus a bit extra to cover cost of getting one into the store, thats what he'd pay. Interesting they could do it so cheap Emjay... it seems not all stores get them in at the same price?

The camera house may have a cost plus whatever percent policy for staff.

It would not surprise me in the least if each store gets a different price & on second thoughts I doubt very much that they would make anywhere near 30% margin on camera bodies. I assume once more. :)

I'll ask the price tomorrow, Was just told "at cost" but was not given a figure. This was from the Owner of the Store who I am doing a heap of design work for at a pretty good rate. So i guess its still costing me somewhere, just none of the physical folding stuff. I think if i was to make the jump to Canon i'd have to purchase 4 or so lenses as well, Having 1 lens would shit me while the nikon is sitting there with a little collection. the 5D video just tickles my asshole too much though...

:photo: just received mail that my mk2 has now indeed been posted

Only had to wait 3 and a half month lol. Then again I saved almost 400 euros compared to the rrp most of the shops are selling it for.

lol, the photos ive taken so far are awful... just testing shit out. Plus, CS3 bridge and ACR etc wont even recognise the CR2 files from the camera yet.

i was just working out how to tether it, as i need to do that tomorrow night.. its pretty cool stuff.

They won't recognise those in the near or distant future either. So it's either buy CS4,use DPP,convert to DNG or use Lightroom.

yep... CS4 i think shall be what ill do. i have the DNG converter as thats what we have to submit all work as anyway... but i do prefer to be able to edit CR2 files if i choose to.

Strange as, my 50D started at 0001 when its on continuous file numbering.

Just a thought, was your memory card formatted before you put it in the 5Dmk2?
Just wondering if the numbering could carry over with the card. I didn't think it would, just a thought.

Can you reset it with the 'manual reset' function?

Re: 5D MkII announced!! (no longer rumour)

Post by DexterPunk »

aha!! i think that would prob be it... i was very close to the clock on my 30D ticking over 10,000 again (for the second time)... i reckon its somehow carried on with those numbers. I did format my card after putting it in though. But it seems about the right numbers to have followed on.

It doesnt bother me greatly, it was more me hoping that some canon rep hasnt been using my camera body for the last few months and chucked it back in a box hahaha.
