Canal phones
Can anyone recommend some reasonably-priced canal earphones please?

Re: Canal phones
no.
but I'd look around here:
http://headphones.com.au/
best goddam headphone site with honest reviews and quality headphones. Excellent search too.
I've bought my audio-technica open headphones here, very happy with it for more than a year now.

Re: Canal phones
I've tried a number of canalphones. From my experience, stay away from the Koss (just crappy sound) and Sony ones (overly bassy).
I have some Etymotic ER-4P canalphones, but they're not exactly "reasonably priced". The ER-6 are nearly as good for a fraction of the cost. It really depends on what you want to spend.
With the Australian dollar as it is right now, you're probably better off buying from the US. This is where I got mine: http://www.headphone.com/products/headp ... r-monitor/
If you don't like that idea, my brother got some ER-6's from eBay Australia. From memory, they were a pretty good deal (around $120 ???).
Overall, canalphones are much better value for money than the more traditional style headphones as the sound isolation is much better. My ER-6P's are about as good as my Senheisser HD-650's and at about a third of the cost. They're also excellent on airplanes as they offer better sound isolation than those crappy noise-cancelling gimmicky things. I recommend getting one of those plane adapter thingies if you fly a lot.

Re: Canal phones
ah, now that is indeed a rather expensive toy But I reckon for normal people around $200-$300 you can find very decent stuff, canal or otherwise. They last too. (not like those flimsy bose triports)Sin wrote:lol...

Re: Canal phones
I wouldn't recommend canalphones for riding. They'd block out too much of the surrounding sounds and could be very dangerous. I sometimes run with my cheaper ones and I have to look three times before crossing the road.

I went and ordered the R02-Pro today, the guy seems to know what he is going on about, and they look like a good choice

Re: Canal phones
They're nice, that's for sure. Perfect for on the train or on a plane. Still tinkering with the different sleeve thingies for best fit. So far, no discomfort from wearing 45-mins at a time.

Got them delevered today, very very good sound quality, and it blocks out all the noise outside (fantastic for work ) just I cant seem to find any of those sleeves that feel decent in my ears.. I guess it just takes some getting used to

Don't get Sony. I have had them twice and on both occasions the core turned to sticky glug and came away from the wire. Sound was below average. I would go for Sennheiser. Considerably better sound quality, good bass and the cording doesn't disintegrate.

Yeah sony is not hifi, it's a big bloody brand, that's all. Fairly crap in all divisions if you ask anybody knowing anything about sound quality.fourthof5 wrote:Don't get Sony. Re: Canal phones
Bumping a bloody old thread here...
But i'm looking at spending no more than $200 on some canal phones.
Can any of you blokes recommend anything to me?
I am currently using Seinheisser CX300 'phones.
I find the bass to be... well... garbage.
I understand that a canalphone will be nowhere near as good as headphones (or speakers for that matter) - but even so, I expected better.
For comparison, I had a pair of Philips canalphones prior to these, and in my opinion, the Philips sound better!
If it makes a difference... I mostly listen to Rock.
I found these, they appear to be back in stock now.
Anyone used them before?

Re: Canal phones
Go on the forums at headphones.com.au and ask the question. The mod there is very helpful with honest answers.
Myself, I picked up some vmoda or some shit from catch of the day, $50. Sound fine
