Pop songs with vocoder vocals

Post by durbster »

OK that's enough now pop music producers. Please stop, it's already getting annoying.

Yep. Every time I put a music channel or the radio on, it's a symphony of digital voices from the latest reality popstar tune to the Black Eyed Peas.

It was an amusing novelty when Kanye did it but now it seems nothing is released without it.

It was well over done before Kanye got to it. Daft Punk were probably responsible of bringing it into the mainstream (although I think Cher was the 1st to release a single using the technique), but they actually did it with skill and instead of using it as a correction tool, actually gave it a life of its own.

Some tracks it works with, most it doesn't. I like it in Electronica, but i think in Hip Hop and pop there is not place for it.

What bugs me is when they try and sneakily plug autotune in on rock tracks. And it gives the singers an unnatural 100% perfect pitch. I mean I understand people can sing but when its not budging out by 10hz for the whole song something isn't right. Takes away the personal feel singers can have and makes everything rather samish.

EDIT: wow late night didn't look at the date. bump

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you finally have enough horsepower.

True though :)

This is why shows like Australian Idol are so flawed because being a perfect singer is lower on the list than songwriting, charisma and stage presence. Even Bono has managed to make a career out of singing despite having an awful, piss-weak voice!

I just read this. I have 0 musical tallent other than singing in the shower and when nobody is around. I may have to have a crack at this and see if I can make myself sound like the next big pop sensation.

I suspect hillariaty is about to ensue provided I actually follow through and get this done. LOL

I'm open to requests on shit to sing. I refuse to murder anything that I enjoy.
Never argue with a idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
