Remote storage
I seem to remember Norbs (?) on here mentioned that he has a device to plug a card into a card reader then copy it onto an external HDD for when you're away from a computer and want to clear / backup a memory card. I'm off on holiday in a couple of months and something like that sounds perfect for backing up our video / stills, removing the need to buy a million SDHC cards (particularly for the video).
HAs anybody used something like this before? I thought they'd be commonplace for photographers but it seems that's not the case.

I think there's a reason you don't see those things anymore.durbster wrote: HAs anybody used something like this before? I thought they'd be commonplace for photographers but it seems that's not the case.
Actually 3 reasons
- costs roughly the same as 10*16GB cards -> no cost savings
- bigger than 10*16GB cards -> no space savings
- all your eggs on one basket -> that thing breaks you lose all your photos... one card fails, at most you lose 1/10th of your photos
and 4th, it seems that the resolution and screen size is lower than on my camera.
Much cycling such kilometers.

Re: Remote storage
I suppose you're right, lots of cards reduces the amount of pain in the case of damage or loss.
Regarding price though, you can buy a 500Gb portable hard drive for $120 so I find it odd that card readers don't have a connect and copy type feature. That would give me a big backup device for half the price of that Camera Buddy, which would make it more appealing.

Don't hold back Woodsy, I want the thread killed. Not locked, deleted or removed - killed.
I suggest electrocution, followed by lethal injection. Finish it off with cremation just to be sure.

Remote storage
Well I'm not sure how I ever missed this, and it's very late lol.. But I own an Epson P3000 photo viewer. It's fantastic, but it really doesn't get a huge amount of usage, probably for reasons mentioned previously in the thread. It's a funky gadget mostly.
