Best compact camera for about $300?
We need a new compact camera but don't have much to spend.
Id like it to have manual control including manual flash intensity if possible..
Any ideas?

You could have a look at something like the Canon Powershot SX130. It has some manual controls. But I can't think of anything in that price range that's going to have manual flash settings. Manual flash controls are usually found in dSLRs, or hot shoe flashes.
What are you trying to do/use it for?

My pana fz7 has manual flash (and manual focus, and shutter or aperture priority mode where you set the desired value...etc), and it's not a DSLR.
I'm just saying there are definitely cameras in the middle.

Surprise, no sig. Now there is. Or is there?

Also not a compact YSU.
Edit: also are you sure it has manual settings for the flash. A review I just read listed the flash modes, and didn't mention it. Only things like forced flash, auto, red eye, rear sync, etc.

true, it's not a compact. But not a dslr either.DexterPunk wrote:Also not a compact YSU.

The way it works is if you don't open the flash it won't go off, if you do it will. And you can set how strong it should be. That's manual enough for my near-zero photographic knowledge

i recently got a g12 also, fantastic camera. Bit larger than other point and shoots but has almost all the manual controls of a dslr and shoots in raw.

It certainly does. Id love one for the occasions where I don't want to take my dSLRs around. I actually don't really have a point and shoot even. Smallest camera I own is a film SLR.
