That's similar to what I've been doing to try to get my knee working again. 20-30km rides every 2-3 days (laps of the block/park so I don't have to go far if I need to stop) alternating with strength exercises and the occasional day off. It's going ok so far.

Gents, what are the plans for the weekend?
I will get there about lunch time on Friday. I might go out for a pedal on Friday arvo. Maybe do the forum ride with the ACF people on Saturday morning. ( http://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/viewt ... 14&t=44770" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )
What about Sat night for dinner? And Sunday after the ride?
Any thoughts?

Re: 2011 Around The Bay In A Day (VIC) - 16/10/11
norbs, I really can only spare Sunday unfortunately, too much work & family stuff going on right now.
But I am happy to do something after the ride on Sunday as we discussed. Some brews & a meal would go down a treat if we are still all capable of doing anything afterwards that is.
As for the ride itself I am hoping the weather is good enough to maybe divert slightly off the actual ATB route.
There is a section of road between Dromana & Mornington that is just superb , beautiful hotmix & stunning coastal views . It would be a shame for you & w00dsy to not to experience it while you're down here.
It is only 1.8km's & 60mtrs vert difference, most of the extra 1.8km's would be getting back to Nepean Hwy through Mornington, which we could stop at one of the many cafes anyway.
As for the extra 60m vert it's really due to one being a bit more rolly compared to the other that is pretty flat apart from the big climb up Balcombe Hill.
http://www.bikemap.net/route/1287725" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.bikemap.net/route/1287728" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Here is a good view of the coastal route elevation profile but we will be doing it in reverse (right to left): http://app.strava.com/segments/742290" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Keep in mind many riders will probably do this route change for the same reason as it is worth it if you are both feeling up to it by then.
Lets assess it when we get to it on the day hey?

Re: 2011 Around The Bay In A Day (VIC) - 16/10/11
i'm happy with whatever, although i may have tears in my eyes at that stage and not be able to see the beautiful views.
I also have an option, one goes through Werribee main st, traffic lights etc plus the road out of Werribee to the Hwy is single lane with no shoulder and it's horrible asphalt. It's the way the official ride goes http://www.bikemap.net/route/1289383" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
but unless we need to stop at any shops i think the other way is easier and it's almost all bike track and gets us straight onto the Hwy a bit sooner than the proper way. I reckon there'll be a few people doing it mainly so they don't have to go through town. http://www.bikemap.net/route/1289392" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

i get confused with winds, does this mean we'll have a tail wind on the way home? Because i'm really hoping we do. I'm crossing my fingers for no wind on the first half, and 100kph tail winds on the way back.

Yes Mate, cross-tail it'll be on way back to Melbourne if it's that direction.

when they southerly, does that mean it's coming from the south or going to the south? I've never really bothered taking notice of the wind until i started riding. Now i'm always looking at which direction it's coming from, even when i'm not riding.

Yes, Southerly means coming from South so it is pushing North, if you get what I mean.

Wind direction is always described by where it is coming from. Southerly would usually mean a cooler wind than a North Westerly. I did say usually.
Apparent wind is a good one for us cyclists. https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... arent_wind" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

i thought it was that way around, mainly due to northerlys being so warm. Doesn't hurt to check though before i go and make a goose of myself in public.

Updated weather forecast for Sunday, we could be in for a hell of a ride to Geelong...block headwind.
Min 10 : Max 19 - Shower or two.
Melbourne area: Partly cloudy. Isolated showers clearing in the evening. Winds west to southwesterly averaging up to 45 km/h becoming southwesterly in the afternoon and easing to 10 to 20 km/h later in the evening.

If you fit a large enough fairing to Flinty's bike, you guys could have quite the cruisy ride by applying your flying wedge technique.. well.. except for Flintynorbs wrote:Flinty72 wrote:Updated weather forecast for Sunday, we could be in for a hell of a ride to Geelong...block headwind.

bit of a difference to this site http://www.weather.com.au/vic/melbourne" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which says Mostly sunny and 14 km/h winds, West to South Westerly.
This site http://www.weatherzone.com.au/region.js ... lc=vic&d=2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; says winds from 28-33 km/h and a 50% chance of rain.
