Top 5 sound tracks
Was thinking of this the other day what are the top 5 film sound tricks which go beyond film. That is sound tracks that aren't just about having "hit" songs in them. I will start things off with.
Star Wars
Bladerunner
Conan the Barbarian (original)
Cape fear (original)
The good he bad and the ugly

I have 13 CDs of Star Wars sound tracks
I loved the Singles sound track when I was growing up. All those Seattle bands on one album was just amazing.

Hmmmm... I'm finding thinking of 5 a bit of a problem too
Agree with Blade Runner
Any of the Spaghetti Westerns
I'll add...
Moon (OST by Clint Mansell)
Dune (just suits the mood of the film)
Baraka (ditto)
Tree of Life (Pretentious subject matter but some lovely classical music throughout)
How about... No Country for Old Men (No soundtrack whatsoever except for the Marriachi band )

Re: Top 5 sound tracks
I thought of some more good one. The classic Dirty Harry films had some brilliantly funky music.
Also Kill Bill is v good.
And of course, the Blues Brothers! (but not the shit sequel).

Just about all of Tarantino's films have awesome sound tracks. But possibly for different reasons than Nige was after?

5 that immediately come to mind
Blade Runner - Vangelis... Genius.
Pulp Fiction - Fantastic amalgam of classic nostalgia and pure hipness.
Tron Legacy - Absolutely brilliant stuff, beats to die for.
Forrest Gump - Basically the cream of 50's, 60's and 70's The rights must've cost a fortune!
Human Traffic - Takes me back to my clubbing days, everytime like a soundtrack to my life.

Tron legacy is very very good. I was going to put it in but thought I had to many modern soundtracks in there

Agreed, Tarantino use some great tracks, but I didn't think that was what Nige was after.DexterPunk wrote:Just about all of Tarantino's films have awesome sound tracks. But possibly for different reasons than Nige was after?

Just on the flip side and turning Nige's request on its head.. If you can find UNKLE's sci fi bites track that has some great music splattered with awesome movie quotes.

Re: Top 5 sound tracks
I was thinking of soundtracks that are remarkable peices of music on there own rather than hit singles. Conan for example is never going to make radio play, but it is brilliant.

From my childhood: Last of the Mohicans & Dracula (the Francis Ford Coppola one). Both excellent emotive soundtracks.
