Grand Prix Legends Still Available & On Sale in AUS

Post by Duke »

Well after all the effort I went through a few years ago to get a retail legit copy of GPL look what I found today & it's from an online seller in AUS. :yes:

http://www.mightyape.com.au/product/PC- ... s/1548145/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Grab it if you want to relive the past or to experience what I feel is one of the best feeling sims of all time. :nod:

Nice little reminder - I found my old manuals for this a few weeks ago. That includes both the user manual as well as the guide to all the tracks and driving techniques etc. Also a bunch of other old game manuals. Pic below. If anyone wants them for price of P&P they're yours.

Sorry for thread hijack! :tilt:

I'm interested in the GPL manuals as I don't think I got hard copies just PDF's.
Let me confirm & get back to you.

by the way you surely don't still have the disk for NASCAR Racing 3 do you?
I really want to track a copy of it down for myself. But it's near impossible when I looked for it a few years ago.

Nascar Racing 3 is not the same as Nascar 2003 though.

Ah I may have got mixed up then. Neil is it Nascar 2003 that everyone still raves about & was selling on ebay a few years ago for many hundreds of $'s?

NR2003 is the last of the Pappy sims before iRacing and I remember your link to that eBay item. Pretty nuts price it achieved.

Ah OK, so begs the question anyone around here have a copy of NR2003?

Has it been re-produced like GPL has in a budget release?
I assume it must have some great anti-piracy given it isn't freely available, it would have gone the way GPL has. :wink:

I may have to research it again & see what I can dig up about it's current state & usage in the retro gaming scene. :nod:
EDIT: Here's a start: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NASCAR_Racing_2003_Season" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

EDIT 2: Ah this is why it's so damn scarce
At the end of March 2004, NR2003 was pulled from shelves when Electronic Arts acquired the exclusive NASCAR rights.
In May 2004, Papyrus was shut down, and David Kaemmer bought the source code and assets a couple months later for his company FIRST, LLC where it became the base code for iRacing.com.

Neil apparently it can be done from my research last night.
This was the most comprehensive how-to I found: http://simnascar.wordpress.com/fab-shop ... -windows7/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Can you let me know if you get it to work, I am on a mission to get NR2003 working alongside GPL on my sim-racing rig once it's built.

I seem to recall some really good mods for NR2003 as well. I might have them stored on a disk if you want a copy. The archive of the Blackhole Morotsport site sadly has many broken links.

I'll try it tonight when I get home.

The gtp mod was brilliant. Me and some mates in the UK dominated endurance racing back in the day. We won pretty much every race we entered after our rookie year. Including all the 24 hour races.

Vader trophy racing kicked arse.

Then some rally guy tried to steal our name.

I have GPL and NC2003 disks, but also at least 5 -7 mods for NASCAR.
Let me have a dig around and see what I can find.
Also a few no CD files from memory.
No I didn't say that, its your imagination....

OK, looking at my back up drive, apart from vanilla NR2003, the other series are
330 open - ferrari I think
aero88 - big lumpy 1988 monsters from memory
CTS - craftsman trucks
CUP - basic Nascar, but pre restrictor plates, maybe, a guess there.
GNS, again, from memory, sort of basis coupe racing
OWR, open wheelers
PTA, dunno, forget
TPCC 1 and 2, I think these where the race of champions, Corvette and Trans Am ( I think)

2 gig, well burnable.

From memory, just drop and play.

Let me go thru the read me files to get more details.
From memory, there's a lot of tracks and a Wacky Racers pack somewhere.

From memory, I also had the last final Le Mans series somewhere. The one that ended it all.

Over the weekend I dig further

opps i forgot about this, Was just about to tear my PC down and put some parts into my new machine...

Anyway i cant get it to work, it just doesnt boot. I get the CD spinning, then nothing. no pop up telling me about DEP. i turned it off. Tried compatibilty mode to. install it from cutter and see how you go.

330 Open - not sure, if its the one im thinking of its 1970s cars. Runs on the transam physics by Papyrus
Aero88 - late 80's Nascars, when the aero war hit.
CTS - Craftmen trucks
CUP - Thats the default series that comes with the game
GNS - Grand National Series, or todays Nationwide series
OWR - Indycars
PTA - Project Trans AM.
TPTCC (the pits touring car mod) same physics as PTA and 330 open.

When the 1.2.01 patch came out they unlocked 3 more physics, Trucks, transam and the GNS i think it was. So most mods are based on that simply because when iRacing came to life (pre 2008) they went around and forced people to remove mods that hacked the .exe file or get sued. Adding in models was fine, but not the physics. GTP mod got a pass from iRacing somehow, (they released a patch that was iracing friendly) and im not sure about OWR how that stayed around.

You guys rock!!! Maybe we need a seperate NR2003 thread now. ;)

Neil, bugger but I am going to try for myself. So the issue is you can't install it or is it that it doesn't run once installed?
by the way you running 32 or 64 bit W7?

dvestate, pm on it's way, an ISO rip would be very much appreciated. :)

Cutter, let me know how your continued searching goes, if I am unable to gety some of the mods now I may just hit you up for copies. :yes:

Installed N2003 this arvo on Win7 & it wouldn't run.....found the below fix worked for me.

IV. CRASHING BECAUSE OF DEP
======================
Data Execution Prevention (DEP)
Data Execution Prevention is a security feature that can be a bit of a pain at times. Often things will simply appear not to run at all; hopefully you will notice a bubble from the taskbar letting you know that DEP is the cause. If Windows 7 (and actually this has been around since Windows Server 2003) sees that a process is being spawned that “could” be unwanted, DEP shuts it down. This is especially common in some application installations: if a Windows Installer setup (MSI) calls an executable in Windows 7, DEP could very well put a stop to it. If you are trying to run an installation or other executable being stopped by DEP, it could save you some trouble so turn it off while you attempt to give it another shot…

To disable, Continue to step 5

V. DISABLING THIS FEATURE
====================
To disable DEP to get NR2003/NR2005 do the following:

Run a command prompt as administrator. From the start menu, select “All Programs”, then “Accessories” and right-click on the “Command Prompt” shortcut and choose “Run As Administrator”. From here you can use the following command to disable Data Execution Prevention (DEP) with the following command:

bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
Then Restart your computer.
This will remain off ALWAYS!

If you do not feel secure after racing your game turn it back on by putting in the following command

* DO NOT DO THIS IF YOUR GOING TO RACE ANYMORE FOR THAT COMPUTER SESSION OR YOU WILL HAVE TO DISABLE AGAIN*:

bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn
then restart your pc and it will now Be ON!
