Yikes! Might have to go with a boxed version - assuming it's a bunch of DVD's and not just a key....r8response wrote:59gb download

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Just bought it from a Brazilian site for $39.37 AU
If you can live without it being on Steam it's probably the cheapest you'll find it.
Edit: Shouldn't take too long

Rockstar gave out some picutres of the boxed version, it's 7 dvds and they've since announced a 50mb patch on launch day.

Wow, I'll have to think carefully about whether to go with the boxed version with a 50mb patch on launch day, versus a 60GB download.

I don't even run a DVD player internally, I just have an external one I use when needed.
They should release it on a 64gig USB stick or something like that.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
It's either a days download, or less if you're lucky enough to have the NBN (the download is expected to take six days for those with 200kb/s or less) or a day spent putting discs into your pc like it's 2005 and you're installing a Sims game...
I'll have the NBN by next week, but I'm still buying the hard copy, it's easier to re-isntall using discs.

I wouldn't mind having a hard copy, but I bought it on steam. That's a crap load of data! Hopefully the servers aren't getting too smashed. I take it by this thread activity that it's been pre released for download?

First time I've considered 4MB/S a slow download. This thing is huge!

I'd say DVD disc install would be way harder - let's assume 15 minutes per disc, it would take you nearly 2 hours of sitting there, replacing discs.
I'd much rather the 60GB download, assuming it has auto-resume, and won't crap out at 99% forcing you to start again!!

Steam and the Rockstar downloader can both be paused.plastik8 wrote:I'd much rather the 60GB download, assuming it has auto-resume, and won't crap out at 99% forcing you to start again!!

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
I'm assuming I could install steam at work. Download it. Take the folder home and chuck it in my steamapps folder? And could do this for a mate who has also bought it on steam, with the same files?

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Yes, I've done that for a few games. When you do an install in steam it first checks for existing files. Drop a copy of the folder in there before installing and it'll just process through the files to make sure they match.

Yep, you can copy the game directory from one PC to another. Done this before with other games.DexterPunk wrote:I'm assuming I could install steam at work. Download it. Decided to get the Steam version.... been running most of last night and all day today @ 600kb/s - about 19 hours left
No NBN in sight for me, even though all the new unit blocks around here have it... why not just do the older buildings at the same time! FFS!

I think it would, but suggest testing with something a bit smaller - might save some heart ache if it doesn't work.DexterPunk wrote:I'm assuming I could install steam at work. Download it. So tempted to get the physical box set as I have every GTA's box set before V.

It's not far off what would be in your typical PC. It may even be that you might get faster downloads if your HDD was up to it.DexterPunk wrote:I didn't even know HDD's could suck down data that fast.
Generally you'd get somewhere around 100mb for a better HDD and maybe up to 120mb for something like a Western Digital black drive.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
The PC has an SSD which i opted not to install steam to, as it's only a 256GB SSD, and only about 120GB free. Speedtest.net usually gives speeds over 900Mb/s, so I assume it possibly could go quicker.
